The World Wide Web Launched into the Public Domain
1993The World Wide Web was the brainchild of Tim Berners-Lee, who was then 37-year-old researcher at a physics lab in Switzerland called CERN. The institution is known today for its massive particle accelerators. On 4/30/1993, the World Wide Web was launched into the public domain, making it easier for everyone to navigate the Internet. All users had to do was launch a new program called a "browser," type in a URL and hit return.
