RMS Titanic sinks
1912The RMS Titanic sank in the North Atlantic, after hitting an iceberg two and a half hours earlier, killing over 1,500 people. It was one of the deadliest peacetime maritime disasters in history and remains one of the most famous.

Notre-Dame cathedral on fire
2019The Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral in Paris, France, caught fire and suffered extensive damage. The fire started in the early evening and burned for several hours, causing the spire and most of the roof to collapse. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
