In September 2008, on the 28th, the Falcon 1 rocket achieved its first successful orbital launch. It was developed by SpaceX, and founded by Elon Musk, with the goal of reducing the cost of space transportation. After three failed attempts, the fourth launch of the Falcon 1 was a success. The rocket carried a small satellite into orbit, marking the first privately-funded liquid-fueled rocket to do so. It was a major milestone in the commercial space industry.
The United Arab Republic (UAR) was a short-lived political union between Egypt and Syria, established in 1958. However, the union faced several challenges due to political differences and economic struggles. On September 28, 1961, Syria officially seceded from the UAR, effectively dissolving the union. The dissolution marked the end of a political experiment that had aimed to create a pan-Arab state, and it demonstrated the challenges of creating a unified political entity out of diverse regions and populations.
On September 28, 1542, the Spanish explorer Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo and his crew set foot on the west coast of what would become the United States, near present-day San Diego. Cabrillo, who was searching for a trade route to Asia, claimed the land for Spain and named it "California." Although he died during the expedition, his journey marked the beginning of European exploration and colonization of the region. Today, he is remembered as the "discoverer" of California.
