Charlie Chaplin is born
1889Charlie Chaplin, British actor and filmmaker, was born. He was one of the most important figures in the early history of cinema and is still beloved by audiences today. He is best known for his character, the Tramp, who appeared in many of his films.

Apollo 16 launched
1972Apollo 16 was the fifth manned mission to land on the moon. The crew consisted of John W. Young, Thomas K. Mattingly II, and Charles M. Duke Jr. During the mission, the crew explored the Descartes Highlands and conducted a number of scientific experiments. They drove the Lunar Roving Vehicle for a total of 26.7 kilometers and collected 95.8 kilograms of lunar samples. The mission was a success and the crew returned safely to Earth on April 27, 1972.
