President Nixon Announced End to the grueling Vietnam War
1973On January 23, 1973, U.S. President Richard Nixon announced that the United States had reached an agreement to end the Vietnam War. Known as the Paris Peace Accords, the agreement led to a ceasefire, the withdrawal of U.S. forces, and the release of American prisoners of war.
