How are you, Hackers? 😊🎄🎅
Merry Christmas, Happy Holiday, and.... HOLY SHIT THE DOCUMENTARY (yes!) HackerNoon team has been working on for over a year is finally here!!
Web 2.5, HackerNoon’s original documentary, premieres TODAY!
The Web 2.5 Documentary follows the thrilling, and occasionally turbulent, journey of the internet, from dial-up modems to social media supremacy; from user-friendly and easily-accessible information to giant paywalls and mass misinformation.
Somewhere along the line we f**ked up…
In this documentary, HackerNoon explains how that line was crossed and whether or not Web3 can help us fix the internet.

December 2022, Hanoi, Vietnam: The HackerNoon team embarks on a whole new endeavor to bring you a unique perspective on the web evolution. The motive? We’re tech aficionados and have been in the tech game for long enough that we owe people to make our explanation of web development through its various stages!
Linh Dao Smooke, HackerNoon COO, points to 2016 as a significant turning point for Web2. “…bubbling under the surface, we had three things: ad-based tech giant algorithms leading people to the extremes, intense misinformation, and then, of course, we had Trump. Dying publishing industries supported by paywall upon paywall, mass distrust in the government, which finally found some adoption in the form of new digital currencies. I think a new reimagined version of the internet is desperately needed.”
Somewhere along the line, this transformative tool heralded for its capacity to bring people together had started to do the opposite.
In Web 2.5, HackerNoon highlights what went wrong, whether Web3 is the answer we seek, and HackerNoon’s role in keeping information on the Internet free, user-friendly, and easily accessible.
“We live between social media and the traditional Forbes of the world, bringing you a high-quality tech story without all the noise,” said David Smooke, HackerNoon Founder & CEO.
Is Web3 really the future, or is it just a passing trend for people looking to make a quick buck? At HackerNoon, we have our answer. Now, let us help you find yours!
Until next time,
HackerNoon Team
