Authorities in London were busy this past week __[arresting](https://kotaku.com/gta-6-vi-hack-leaker-arrested-teenager-london-laspsus-1849573250)__ a teenager based in Oxfordshire for their __[involvement](https://hackernoon.com/how-an-18-year-old-teen-breached-uber-without-hacking-a-single-system)__ in the recent __[Uber](https://hackernoon.com/company/uber)__ and Grand Theft Auto VI __[leaks](https://kotaku.com/gtavi-gta-vi-gta-6-grand-theft-auto-leak-video-dump-1849550414)__, the latter taking the internet by storm. One can only assume that the teen's __[negotiation skills](https://twitter.com/stephentotilo/status/1571532523389308928?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1571532523389308928%7Ctwgr%5E04b12ddf5164328e06de55d06443176ece38b303%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fkotaku.com%2Fembed%2Finset%2Fiframe%3Fid%3Dtwitter-1571532523389308928autosize%3D1)__ weren't up to par, though whatever the case, this must be a difficult time for the teenager and everyone else involved, not that it absolves the hacker of their crime.

Though what doesn't seem to be in decline is __[Facebook](https://hackernoon.com/company/facebook)__, which continues to remain at the top of the tech company rankings. Yes, the social media OG is #1 again, who would've thought? Apparently, investors aren't *too keen* on Zuckerberg's __[new-found focus](https://www.businessinsider.com/zuckerberg-said-facebook-will-eventually-become-a-metaverse-company-2021-7)__ on the metaverse, even though the tech entrepreneur is betting his all on the emerging technology — going as far as to __[rebrand](https://www.businessinsider.com/facebook-new-name-meta-rebrand-metaverse-zuckerberg-apps-2021-10?r=US&IR=T)__ Facebook's corporate name to __[Meta](https://hackernoon.com/company/meta)__.

Investors' lukewarm response to Zuckerberg's plans has impacted his personal net worth, which is down by $71 billion, or over 55%, so far this year, Bloomberg News __[reports](https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-09-19/mark-zuckerberg-s-net-worth-is-down-71-billion-putting-focus-on-meta-s-woes)__. Outside of the Western Hemisphere, a number of developments are brewing in India as part of its efforts to reduce reliance on foreign tech companies.

The world's largest democracy is __[pushing](https://www.reuters.com/technology/exclusive-indias-push-home-grown-navigation-system-jolts-smartphone-giants-2022-09-26/)__ smartphone makers to enable compatibility with its home-grown navigation systems — called Navigation with Indian Constellation, or NavIC for short — in new devices sold in the country starting next year. NavIC is designed to rival the widely used U.S. Global Positioning System (GPS), and the Indian government says the system provides more accurate domestic navigation and that its use would benefit the economy, according to Reuters.

Insiders __[tell](https://www.reuters.com/technology/exclusive-indias-push-home-grown-navigation-system-jolts-smartphone-giants-2022-09-26/)__ Reuters that phone manufacturers, including __[Samsung](https://hackernoon.com/company/samsung)__ and __[Apple](https://hackernoon.com/company/apple)__, are not happy with the development since it would require hardware changes, resulting in increased costs.

While it's too early to predict how the push will pan out, Apple may have a bargaining chip under its sleeve: the tech giant __[announced](https://www.reuters.com/technology/apple-says-it-is-excited-be-manufacturing-iphone-14-india-2022-09-26/)__ it will begin manufacturing its latest iPhone 14 in India, which would be a big boost for the country of 1.38 billion people. It's highly likely that Apple could use this announcement as a negotiation tool.

Reuters further __[reported](https://www.reuters.com/technology/googles-india-policy-head-gulati-resigns-sources-2022-09-26/)__ that Google's head of public policy for India, Archana Gulati, has resigned just five months into her role. While it's not clear why Gulati resigned, the timing couldn't have been more critical: India's competition watchdog is close to announcing its decision on at least two antitrust cases against Google in the country.

**Intel chip manufacturing comes to the EU** :eu:

[Intel](https://hackernoon.com/company/intel), which ranked #62 this week, has reportedly narrowed down the preferred location for building chip manufacturing capacity in the EU. According to this __[report](https://www.reuters.com/technology/exclusive-italy-intel-pick-veneto-preferred-region-new-chip-plant-sources-2022-09-25/)__, the company has picked the town of Vigasio in the northeastern Veneto region of Italy for a new multibillion-euro chip factory.
