Paramount Pictures recently dropped the title announcement video for the highly anticipated sequel to the live-action hit movie based on the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. The new movie has been aptly titled Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
The new video and logo evokes the inclusion of Tails, who was first introduced to gamers in 1992’s Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for SEGA Genesis. Interestingly enough, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was the game that essentially pioneered global release dates for major video game titles. The game saw a massive global release effort that year that was dubbed “Sonic 2sday,” which launched the game in North America and Europe.
Additionally, the clip features a brief sampling of the “Emerald Hill Zone” theme from the second game. Emerald Hill Zone was the first stage of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Hopefully, the sequel will make better use of Sonic’s iconic music than the original did.
The new release of the title announcement video celebrates the one-year anniversary for the record-setting theatrical opening of the first movie, which starred Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik, James Marsden as Sheriff Tom Wachowski, and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is currently slated for an April 8, 2022 release date. Currently, the theatrical cinematic marketplace is in a very uncertain state right now due to the COVID-19 pandemic. An April 2022 release date at least gives Paramount Pictures further time for the coronavirus to hopefully dissipate, or at least, to plan a new release strategy if theatrical exhibitors collapse and pandemic restrictions are still in place by that time.
