There is a tendency to call computers “tools”, which creates a false equivalency between computers and more traditional tools like needles, hammers, and screwdrivers. With a computer (and I include things like tablets and smartphones here), the sheer variety of new input methods is staggering. Knowing when to use each is the epitome of the “devil in the details” frame of mind that every UI designer should have. It's important to consider how fast a user can “recall” that you need to click here or click there.
