Sonic Colors is about to receive a fresh coat of paint. SEGA revealed Sonic Colors: Ultimate this week during the 35th Anniversary celebration for Sonic the Hedgehog. The multi-platform remake is in the works for an early Fall release. You can check out the new reveal trailer for the new edition of Sonic Colors below.
Originally released for the Nintendo Wii in 2010, Sonic Colors is making a comeback. The Ultimate edition is due out later this year as a multi-platform release with a multitude of release choices for digital and physical retail copies.
The upcoming HD remake is being handled by Blind Squirrel Entertainment, who has previously handled AAA game HD remasters such as BioShock: The Collection, Borderlands: Game of the Year Enhanced Edition and Mass Effect: Legendary Edition. So, even though it's not being developed in-house, it appears to at least be in the hands of competent developers who know what they are doing.
In terms of release versions, the game will be available in both Digital Deluxe and Digital Standard editions. Digital Deluxe will offer players Early Access, a Player Icon Pack, the Ultimate Music Pack, the Metallic Pack, Movie FX Cosmetics, and Movie Player Icons. Players who pre-order the physical copy will receive a Baby Sonic keychain based on the 2020 movie.
Sonic Colors: Ultimate will hit the shelves on September 7, 2021. The game will be available for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC via Epic Games.
