Too Long; Didn't Read

QuakeCon is making a comeback later this year. Bethesda Softworks has confirmed that QuakeCon will return this August 2021. It will be an online, digital-only event. Last year, the convention was forced to cancel due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Microsoft's acquisition of Bethesda parent company ZeniMax Media was completed earlier this year in a landmark $7.5 billion purchase. This will be the first time the convention will be held under the company's new owners in Microsoft.

QuakeCon is making a comeback later this year. Bethesda Softworks has confirmed that QuakeCon will return this August 2021. However, it will be an online, digital-only event.

Previously, Bethesda was forced to cancel the official convention last year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Much like E3 later this June, QuakeCon will be returning, but as an online, streaming show in light of safety for the staff, volunteers and gaming community. This year's show will run from August 19-21.

Bethesda released the following statement for this year's online convention:

"We can’t wait to get back to Dallas with our QuakeCon family, but for the continued safety of our staff, the volunteers, and the community, this year’s QuakeCon will once again be a digital-only event. We’ll have all the Peace, Love, and Rockets – remotely – August 19-21."

In a follow-up tweet, Bethesda stated that more details on the lineup, charity opportunities, giveaways and more will be released next month. It should be interesting to see QuakeCon come back as this will be the first time the convention will be held under the company's new owners in Microsoft.

Microsoft's acquisition of Bethesda parent company, ZeniMax Media, was completed earlier this year in a landmark $7.5 billion purchase. The sale makes Microsoft the owners of Bethesda Softworks and sub-studios, such as Arkane, MachineGames, id Software and Tango Gameworks. In short, Microsoft now owns such properties as Wolfenstein, Dishonored, Doom, Fallout, and more.
