It was formally established in 1960. This is just two years after the officially set up shop in the United States in 1958, and years ahead of its home-grown conglomerate EMBRAER. National Aeronautics Space Administration - NASA The origins of Brazil’s program date to work of the Grupo de Organização da Comissão Nacional de Atividades Espaciais - GOCNAE (Organization Group of the National Commission of Space Activities). This commission was appointed by presidential decree for space exploration, travel, and research. The researchers at GOCNAE contributed in its early days to numerous scientific international projects. This dynamic changed abruptly under the authoritarian military regime (1964- 1985). During this turbulent time in Brazilian history, the (National Institute for Space Research) substituted GOCNAE. INPE is based in São José dos Campos in the state of São Paulo. How the Brazilian Startup Ecosystem Is Driving Innovation in the Space Industry 

Recently, I read a blog post titled " ". It’s a brief article in which James Turnbull shows a mind map with four areas that “every new technical leader needs to, at least, think about and explore when starting at a new organization.” VPE and CTO — The first 90 days Although the author doesn’t detail how to tackle each of them, the mind map itself is very valuable. It organizes information, and make explicit the many responsibilities of tech leadership positions. The areas are Company, Product, Technical, and Humans. For each one of them, he proposes to categorize the subtopics in: No action needed — everything is cool. This needs work — let’s work out what we need to do and when. There’s nothing here, and should that worry me? In my experience, many Software Engineers feel unassisted in the process of dealing with a Tech Lead position, or when becoming a CTO. Therefore, the exercise sounded like an excellent idea to me. In addition to James’ contribution, I brought some pieces of advice for who is transitioning or starting to a new tech leadership position. It’s part of your job to define a technical vision, and manage the team to comply with it. It applies to all tech leaders, from experienced Developers to CTO. If you’re a Tech Lead, there are chances you don’t have a budget for you to manage on your own. However, it’s as essential as it is for a higher position to understand your limits. Due to gang violence and mismanagement of state institutions in Latin America, the trust in government institutions has diminished, and we forecast that due to the current pandemic situation, this gap is only going to increase. Adrian Lujan: The masses feel betrayed by their elites. Due to which now they are placing their trust in new-age technologies like Bitcoin because people have seen that they trust a technology that is not governed by anyone but by maths only. People in Latin America have lost trust in centralized systems as they are susceptible to corruption, and that is why Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies are a revolution that is having a profound impact on our society. Reports indicate that in Mexico, 6 out of 10 people are somewhere related to the cryptocurrency’s ecosystem. So the change is already happening, and that we are expanding as much as we can in Latin America by providing fiat on-ramps in the Mexican peso, Uruguayan peso, Argentinian peso, Chilean peso, Colombian peso, Peruvian sol, and Belize dollar. Please tell us about the regulations regarding blockchain and cryptocurrencies exchanges in Mexico? Ishan Pandey: Currently, in Mexico, the agencies are only regulating the institutions that carry out operations with digital assets in strict contact with the country’s financial services, for this it has generated “La Ley para Regular las Instituciones de Tecnología Financiera” (The Law to Regulate Financial Technology Institutions) where the creation of a committee is established. Blockchain seems to me to be one of the indispensable participants for this purpose as it removes intermediaries and brings transparency to the process. It should not be the case that decentralized finance is just a buzzword and a smokescreen, but inside it is only a centralized system. That is problematic, and in some instances, this is also true. The saying that size does not matter may be applicable in graphene — this wonder material that, although measures only an atom thick, is changing the way we live with its amazing properties. Graphene is the thinnest material but has proven to be 200 times stronger than steel. Aside from its strength, it has versatile uses that serving as a conductor of heat and electricity to changing the way we build smoke detectors. This said, it is easy to point out why graphene is being tagged as a revolutionary of several industries. range from But as mankind gets more familiar with this material, here are just a few graphene-using innovations that have been going on and may see in the near future: 1. How the great potential of graphene can improve the technologies we use daily

On Friday and yesterday I have attended a tech careers festival. Not only am I interested in tech and what the may bring in this area, I am also interested in meeting the people and companies behind the UX-designed websites and corporate brochures. If culture is such a hot topic and concern, for as much as technologies have advanced, there is nothing like a face-to face conversation to (start to) really understand what companies are all about under the hood or, in this case, under the hoodies. future Skills under the hoodie One of the last sessions of the first day of the festival was presented by , a consultancy focused on the skills for the future. It was not long until a slide read — as the second must have skill related to jobs in the future — “Career and job hacking”. While career hacking relates to the capacity to transition between careers, job hacking relates to the capacity to hack your job to make it better, to turn it into something closer to your dream job (although the presenter promptly reckoned that there is no such thing as dream job). It was also mentioned that in the future, on average, people will be expected to have 7 different careers, so it is understandable the prominent place given to that skill. 361degreeslab The slide (and skill) mentioned before that had been “Resilience” or the capacity to surpass obstacles, and now, faced with the second, I was to the point of concluding that those where not the trends I was expecting. I was expecting to hear that technical skills would become a must, or even that a certain programming language would become omnipresent and absolutely necessary for someone interested in any career, for that matter. Another skill read “transdisciplinarity” Just two years before I had launched a project aimed at mixing people with background in the Humanities with people with background in Sciences, hoping that people in both fields realized the century-long artificiality of this division. In fact, there are countless cases of scientists that contributed to the arts and humanities, and artists that contributed to science. Making this separation is not only artificial but also inhuman, as in these cases it requires almost that you split a person in two 😯 These trends left me with the somewhat optimistic feeling about the future, that perhaps it is just a matter of time until other things you believe in will fall into place too 🤞 In any case, I am pretty well aware that the discussions about the future that happen in rooms at festivals like these, are quite far from the current understanding of these topics for the other spectrum of society— and that nobody really knows how much time it will take for them to materialize and to be true for everybody (if at all). Another topic trending among the participants and speakers was the . This is also quite far from being discussed in many non-tech areas, but here it lends itself to heated discussion. The founder of was explaining how a fully distributed team of 75 people is a core trait of its culture and how it was a key decision to be made early on. That has allowed him to live, for example, between Hawaii and the US, while always working in the development and growth of the same company, i.e. Buffer. Don’t get me wrong, those slogans do express many things I believe anyone should aim for when choosing a career (and more than that) life direction, but hardly will a company or a job by itself give you all that, and even in those rare cases it does, since everybody is claiming to be that rare beast, everyone loses credibility in the claims. Rather, it seems one would have better chances of standing out by having claims such has “Here you can find a reasonable work life balance, and not-too-bad bureaucracy” or “Do more great things than boring ones, most of the time”. here-you-will-find-the-meaning-of-your life propaganda In one of the workshops entitled “How to Land your Dream Job”, the speaker — a recruiter at Lyst.com — showed this video from Twitter, that clearly illustrates the hyperbolic nature of some claims companies are making (hey, kudos to to the self-mocking capacity in the tech culture ). 😅 People and companies under the hoodies It is indeed quite different to speculate what companies are really about by reading the things they publish online and being face-to-face with their representatives; paying attention, more than to the content of their presentation, to the way they present their companies, and the way they answer your questions. I guess that like with candidates to recruiters, some companies that look great on paper, can look less interesting when in-person and vice-versa. One thing that could be potentially misleading though is when the representatives are people from HR and not people that you would actually work with (unless you are from HR). But even so, the way they behave and how they handle your questions, may not be a reflection of the work itself or the specific team you would work with, but it is, to some extent, always a reflection of the company (that has chosen them as their representatives). In this respect there were people that were quite informed about the positions available, others that didn’t have a clue and directed potential candidates to the website immediately, and others that gave blunt answers such as “We are only recruiting German speaking people” while seemingly annoyed to be disturbed from the beer-fueled conversation with their colleagues. It was claimed that there were around 60 companies represented in the booths displayed on the top-floor. That gave it a chaotic appearance and also incentives for people to go to all of them (also to collect the shining goodies displayed on the tables). While that works for curious people that like to talk to as much people as they can or that are building a collection of corporate merchandising (both perfectly valid situations ) think that a better approach would be for candidates and companies to pre-select a handful people they would more interested in talking to and have one-one-ones between candidates and companies — a Tinder mechanism for meeting companies of sorts. That would curb the temptation to go to each and single booth and would more effective in creating potential good matches. 😎 Expert conversation under the hoodie In this specific careers festival there were the so-called expert sessions, some one-on-one, some in group. I have booked one expert session one-on-one, although I ended up having two (because the group members of the other group session didn’t show up) and a group session. While I think that the one-on-one sessions worked well, because the “expert” was provided with individual context and tried to adapt the insight to the individual, the group sessions didn’t work as well (and perhaps don’t work at all in this kind of experience). On the individual sessions the insights where fully customized and since it was more of a conversation, there was lots of back and forth to ensure the insights were rightly adjusted. Conversely, on the group sessions, although it was interesting to see the goals, backgrounds and aspirations of other people, it seemed that generic conclusions where being cast in search of a contender to whom they would fit, since the time constraints didn’t allow to go much in-depth for each individual. Think this approach doesn’t work for such a topic, unless the time is extended for the group sessions, to allow for the same depth as the one-on-ones. For the same duration, I would obviously choose individual instead of the group sessions, as it can be specially hazardous or non-beneficial, to be generic on these topics. Hackaton under the hoodie A brief note about the hackathon, and to this respect maybe this headline is misleading, as I did not follow it closely and only saw some of the final results. A shout out to pickit, one of the winners of the night, an app to help you pick movies to watch with friends. It is always good to see what can be made in 24h and it always serves as a great motivator to learn to build products too. In reality, I think I didn’t see anyone wearing hoodies (OK, maybe one or two people, that were doing the hackathon) and that serves well as a metaphor. More than anything else, festivals like these can be used to dispel some biases and prejudices about future trends, companies and people working in those companies — to take a peek under the hoodie. The caveat is that although these events are much better to identify culture traits than just browsing corporate websites, they are based in words, talks, more than anything else. It would be really great if someone invented a that allowed companies to showcase their real culture to the people attending these festivals. technology That I think would be worthy of multiple well-funded hackathons. PS: I never got to go on the boat trip, although I signed up two times. Maybe I would have some other points to add, if inspired by he breeze. Next time.

Heads without hoodies and a bag full of goodies — my review of attending a tech careers festival

Antes de empezar a trabajar en Codeando estaba decepcionado del gobierno en todos los niveles. Mi experiencia de innovación, apertura y de hacer las cosas distintas solamente acababa siendo mal ejecutado. Comencé a trabajar en el servicio público porque creía que podía promover un cambio desde adentro, tener el privilegio de ejecutar proyectos que pueden tener impacto para toda una ciudad me parecía el camino a tomar. Resultó que los juegos de poder y la politiquería pueden más que el deseo de hacer bien las cosas. Aquella plática en la que Juan Pablo me contó de la posibilidad de trabajar en los proyectos de Codeando sin tener que lidiar con los juegos de poder y realmente buscar resultados fue la mejor oportunidad de probar que no todo estaba perdido. México open washing Trabajar desde Codeando México ha sido un honor y me ha dado la oportunidad de recuperar algo de esperanza en que se pueda tener un gobierno abierto de verdad. En este año y poco he conocido a empresas de todo el país que han comprendido que el desarrollo de una empresa no significa ser tan grande como Facebook sino realizar proyectos que generen cambios en cómo vive la gente y que eso puede significar desarrollar una aplicación de gobierno, he conocido a gente dispuesta a dar su fin de semana o las horas después del trabajo para desarrollar una solución útil. He encontrado a servidores públicos excepcionales en realizar su trabajo diario, que poco a poco cambian la cultura de cómo se piensa en el servicio público. Pero también me ha dado la oportunidad de entender que el rol de sociedad civil y la iniciativa privada (cuando se le ponen reglas claras), es clave en hacer que esto ocurra. Durante este periodo he conocido a personas brillantes, tanto de Latinoamérica, como de otras regiones, en el sur y en el norte, que a diario buscan que el trabajo que hacen tenga impacto en la vida diaria de las personas, ya sea haciendo que su gobierno sea más transparente, acercando a la gente correcta para colaborar, desarrollando las tecnologías que permiten que el gobierno pueda responder mejor a las necesidades de a quienes sirve. Mi tiempo aquí se termina pero me quedo con el equipo excepcional con el que siempre conté y con todo el aprendizaje que esta organización me dejó. El futuro es incierto, pero estoy seguro de que seguiré yendo en este camino de una u otra forma. Seguiré descubriendo el camino y espero seguir encontrando un montón de gente brillante para trabajar. Competir en precio o capacidad, no se traduce necesariamente en una ventaja competitiva, tendrás que ofrecer una experiencia deseable, útil y significativa, para lograr que los consumidores sean leales a tu marca. Aquí te dejamos algunas tendencias clave para que te pongas a pensar en las estrategias que quieres implementar en este año: La experiencia Omni-canal Los consumidores demandan un servicio sin interrupciones. El servicio a cliente debe concentrar diferentes canales tanto en línea como análogos, para atender y darle seguimiento a las necesidades de los clientes. ¿Todos los puntos de contacto de tu empresa están conectados y actualizados? Herramientas de Auto-servicio Muchas veces los clientes no quieren hablar con una persona para obtener información, contratar o utilizar un producto o servicio. Ellos están demandando herramientas que les permitan hacerlo sin necesidad de un intermediario. ¿Le estás dando a tus clientes las herramientas para relacionarse directamente con tu producto o servicio? Invertir en tus empleados Aunque no lo creas, la experiencia de tus empleados es igual de importante que la experiencia de tus clientes. Después de todo, los empleados son los que tienen contacto directos con los clientes y los que cumplen las promesas de la marca. Cada vez más empresas rediseñan la experiencia de sus empleados a la par de las de los consumidores para generar una estrategia integral de servicio a cliente. ¿Qué tipo de experiencias son satisfactorias y útiles para tus empleados? Tecnología predictiva Las compañías están utilizando herramientas tecnológicas para predecir los gustos e intereses de los clientes y de esta manera poder personalizar sus experiencias. Los clientes están satisfechos, por ejemplo, cuando llaman a una compañía y el sistema los reconoce y sabe cuáles son sus necesidades. ¿Estás utilizando la tecnología para predecir los requerimientos de tus clientes? E quante volte ti sei sentito d’accordo? Essere uno sviluppatore in Italia fa schifo Il mercato del lavoro per chi si occupa di sviluppo e programmazione in Italia è “famoso” per essere fra i più arretrati in Europa: tutti lo sappiamo e tutti ci rendiamo conto di trovarci di fronte ad un disagio strutturale che può solo peggiorare con il tempo. Il problema non riguarda solo i salari (i più bassi dell’Unione Europea, insieme a Portogallo, Spagna e Grecia) ma più in generale la concezione del ruolo di “developer” all’interno delle aziende. Per ogni storia romanticheggiante di qualche ragazzino californiano che diventa miliardiario grazie ad una app e viene intervistato da tutti i giornali, in Italia ci sono decine di storie molto meno piacevoli su aziende che non conoscono orari, non investono su innovazione e formazione e credono di poter disporre liberamente della vita dei propri collaboratori. L’intramontabile convinzione del “ ” è infatti anche parzialmente accettabile ma perde ogni legittimazione quando il professionista è sbattuto in uno scantinato a fare il refactoring di progetti vecchi di decenni scritti in Fortran (o quasi) e viene considerato come un pericoloso sovverviso quando si prende un permesso per partecipare ad un seminario. i salari in Italia sono più bassi perché la vita è meno cara Per fortuna esistono già alcune startup ed aziende che hanno compreso l’importanza di questi professionisti e che, per quanto possibile, cercano di garantire loro le condizioni più stimolanti: sono ancora casi isolati — in genere in quei contesti con un’elevata competizione per attrarre i migliori talenti — ma da qualche parte dovremmo pur partire. In tutto questo non dobbiamo dimenticare la crescente categoria dei professionisti italiani che vanno a vivere e lavorare all’estero. Troppo spesso vengono liquidati con un “ ”, anche se non se ne conosce l’effettiva situazione. : esistono sviluppatori italiani che vivono all’estero e sono sottopagati anche lì! loro sì che hanno fatto bene ad andarsene, bravi! NOTIZIA SHOCK Ecco quindi spiegato il grande paradosso: oggi sono moltissimi i professionisti che si lamentano della situazione italiana, ma non esiste nessuna vera analisi a tal proposito. Ogni anno sono pubblicate ricerche davvero apprezzabili sul mondo degli sviluppatori (quella di Stack Overflow è in genere la più completa) che però considerano l’Italia un mercato periferico e che non merita di essere valutato nel dettaglio. Ci siamo quindi chiesti: Qual è il salario medio degli sviluppatori italiani? Quali sono le tecnologie che utilizzano, quelle che vorrebbero utilizzare e quelle che invece vorrebbero dimenticare? Quali sono i fattori di soddisfazione ed insoddisfazione in azienda? Per trovare una risposta, abbiamo deciso di lanciare una nostra survey e condividere pubblicamente la fotografia che emergerà. Greetings! I am Akanksha Gupta, experienced Software Engineering Manager currently working with Amazon AWS where I lead full stack teams. Prior to AWS, I worked with tech giants like Robinhood, Audible(Amazon subsidiary) and Microsoft. My focus has been to demonstrate customer obsession and help ship awesome products for our end customers. I have been awarded Fellow by the British Computer Society, Institute of Electronics and Engineering and RSA for my work in the software engineering field. I hold a Masters in Computer Science from Columbia University, NYC and have been a mentor for engineers around the globe. Why did you choose this field in the first place? From a young age, I have been captivated by computers and technology. My father, who worked in the tech industry, gifted me my first computer when I was in fifth grade. Initially, I used it mostly for gaming, but my father gradually introduced me to the potential of computers, which sparked my interest. I started creating simple games during my high school computer science courses, and this ultimately led me to pursue a Bachelor's degree in computer science. My passion for the subject only grew stronger, and I eventually pursued a Master's degree in it as well. What tech are you most excited/passionate about right now and why? Currently in the software engineering technology, I am super excited about two main things. First been the generative AI that is super powerful and has brought a wave of excitement in the technology sector. The ability to create new and original content, such as music, art, and even writing, using machine learning algorithms, is an astounding achievement. With such a powerful tool in place, sky is the limit and I am super excited to see what is instilled for all of us. Secondly is the adoption of as more and more industries mature their engineering excellence culture. DevSecOps has helped organization to bring in security early in the development phase itself and not keep any loose ends. This helps instills trust with customers and ensures a high bar of product for the end customer. DevSecOps Further, taking security pro-actively helps reduce financial and repetitional loss later in the launch of product. What tech are you most worried about right now and why? I have always been apprehensive about , particularly due to its potential to cause harm, particularly to ordinary people, when combined with the growing dependence on digital technology and social media. Unfortunately, there has been a surge in social engineering attacks where scammers use various tactics to gain access to people's sensitive information for malicious purposes. It is critical that we remain vigilant and raise awareness about this issue to counter these criminals. social engineering What are your hobbies and interests outside of tech? During the pandemic, I discovered canvas painting as a favorite pastime, which has become a source of relaxation for me. Painting was something that I had always found daunting since childhood, so I took this opportunity to step out of my comfort zone and challenge myself, only to discover my passion for it. Currently, I am occupied with another delightful responsibility, my six-week-old daughter. Let's talk about breaking the glass ceiling. What were the biggest challenges you faced as a woman in tech, and how did you deal with them? As a woman of color, I have often found it challenging to express my viewpoints in a male-dominated field where I am frequently the only woman present in the room full of men. However, my journey became more compelling when I transitioned from being an individual contributor to an engineering leader. As a leader, I was accountable for advocating not just for myself but also for my team members. Fortunately, I have been blessed with a robust support system of mentors and sponsors at my workplace and in my network, who have helped me to develop and evolve as an engineering leader. To confront the challenges of being a woman in tech, I have relied on my support system as a sounding board while also being open to feedback to improve my skills. Any questionable misogynistic story/situation you faced/handled, and you want to share with the HackerNoon Fam? During my time at a particular workplace, there was a project that required traveling, and my boss assumed that I wouldn't be able to take it due to my gender and the assumption that I had family responsibilities. Instead, he offered the opportunity to a male peer. Although I felt disappointed, I tried not to take it personally and approached my boss, expressing my enthusiasm for the opportunity and my ability to take on the task. My boss realized his mistake on assumption and later apologized as well for the same. What was the biggest setback/failure that you faced, and how did you manage it? After completing high school, I aspired to attend the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), one of the top colleges in the country. Despite putting in a lot of effort, I failed to clear the entrance exam. It was a major setback, but I accepted the reality and pursued a bachelor's degree in computer science from another university. I took the disappointment positively and worked diligently for four years to improve my engineering skills. In the end, I graduated with a gold medal and became the university topper, which was a significant achievement. What's your biggest achievement that you're really proud of? My biggest achievement has been to bring a long time dream to reality by launching my first book on leadership and management-  ‘ ’ -  in early access to help guide other fellow engineers interested in pursuing leadership and management roles. My goal with this book was to motivate future software engineers and address a gap that I noticed while striving to improve my leadership skills and pursue career opportunities. The path to achieving this was both distinctive and difficult as there were limited resources available on the subject, and I had to navigate the intricacies of the publishing industry to find a suitable publisher who shared my vision. Since I did not have any acquaintances who had been through a similar experience, I had to rely solely on my own exploration. Despite the obstacles, the journey taught me valuable lessons and has been my most significant achievement to date. Think like a Software Engineering Manager In your opinion, why do we see this huge gender gap in the tech industry, and how can we reduce it? I believe that the significant gender gap in the tech industry is a result of historical biases that have led to the perception of technology as a male-dominated field and limited opportunities for girls, particularly in smaller communities. To overcome these obstacles, it is important to create a supportive environment, promote diversity and inclusion, and stand up for each other. As a part of my community involvement, I actively mentor aspiring engineers through various platforms such as PlatoHQ, Growth mentor, First round fast track, and women in tech network, to inspire and motivate more girls to pursue engineering. Who is your tech idol? Why? Bill Gates is my technology icon because of his achievements in the tech industry as the co-founder of Microsoft, as well as his remarkable philanthropic efforts. He has not only made financial contributions but has also dedicated his time to improve the world. Do you have any advice for aspiring girls who want to join the field? Strive for what you desire or aspire to accomplish. If you don't make an effort, you won't succeed. Pursuing your goal with determination will provide you with a sense of fulfillment and increase your chances of success by at least 50%.

Despite facing considerable challenges in developing an app that rejected long-established budgeting practices, Shaura persevered. Early users' engagement with Oops provided strong signals that they were on the right track. In fact, users even preferred to check their finances on the app versus browsing social media during their daily commute. This positive response solidified Shaura's belief in her approach and encouraged her to continue disrupting the status quo. Shaura’s vision for the future of personal finance is rooted in optimism. While Gen Z has often been criticized for prioritizing short-term spending over long-term saving or investing, Shaura believes this pattern is a symptom of a deeper generational issue. Unfortunately, existing financial institutions and older generations have done little to address this problem, leaving young people trapped in a cycle of financial insecurity.
