Learn more about my thoughts and opinions on blockchain, Web 3, and Play to Earn gaming and my journey in the tech industry via the interview below. 1. Tell us about your journey. What do you do and what do you love about it? I became interested in blockchain technology in 2012 when I first discovered Bitcoin. Over the years I’ve been a part of creating or helping to launch multiple projects in the industry geared towards lowering the barrier to entry for people that are not familiar with the technology. Currently I’m working with Splinterlands to help bring blockchain and cryptocurrency mainstream through easy to use gaming applications. 2. Tell us more about your work. What do you make/write/manage/build? We build Play to Earn blockchain based games. Part of that process requires writing out whitepapers and technical documentation, but the philosophy behind it all is just as important and that often shines through as well. We’re currently managing multiple ongoing projects and partnerships to help bridge the gap between Web 2 and Web 3 users. 3. How did you start writing? What made you choose HackerNoon for publishing your work? Splinterlands operates on the HIVE blockchain, which has writing and blogging as a core design of the blockchain, offering users immutable and censorship-resistant avenues for free speech. Quite a few of our employees follow HackerNoon and read the articles. We were very excited to win Blockchain Game Developer of the Year last year! 4. What excites you in tech? Tell us about your favorite technology and why you are passionate about it. The most exciting thing in tech right now is the fundamental shift that is happening with Web 3 and blockchain technology. It seems that many people throw around terms like these as buzzwords, but the underlying philosophy of self-ownership and decentralized, community-led governance has the power to change the world. Instead of siphoning wealth from individuals, this new technology allows companies like ours to create value with our communities and to then empower them with the ability to influence the direction of development for years to come! 5. What were some of the challenges you faced being a tech writer and how did you overcome them? Over the last 10 years I’ve had to learn about blockchain technology as it developed and learning how to communicate the complex ideas and mechanics behind the technology to people that may not understand the value of it has been the most challenging. At Splinterlands, we believe that the best route to onboarding the masses to Web 3 is to provide an easy user-experience with clear messaging and solid technology that is reliable and affordable. What are you learning/reading currently? Any recommendations for our readers? We’re always following developments from many sources and staying up to date on new advancements in smart contracts, DeFi, DAOs, and new blockchains and consensus mechanisms that are in the works. We view the industry as a whole as a collaborative space that is working to build a better future with greater opportunities for all through technology. 7. What is your biggest achievement so far? Splinterlands has had so many massive achievements at this point and they are all very humbling. Becoming the top played blockchain game in the world for most of the last year has been very encouraging and drives us to want to do more for our community. We’ve partnered with major brands like Warner Music Group and MLSPA to help even more diverse groups make the transition to Web 3. We also just crossed the 3 billion games played threshold yesterday. There have been many achievements so far, but we’re looking forward to what we can do next! 8. If we gave you 10 million dollars to invest in something today, what would you invest in and why? At this point, educational marketing and developing more streamlined user experiences that lower the barrier to entry and reduce the stigma that blockchains are clunky, slow and impractical is the smartest investment this industry as a whole could make. We believe that this would have the greatest impact on the industry, but also it helps destigmatize NFTs and blockchain gaming by educating users on the power of true ownership of digital assets and censorship resistant technologies. 9. What advice would you give to someone just starting in this field? Follow the passion, not the trends. Blockchain and Web 3 have the power to change the world for the better, but no technology is perfect. If this is something you’re sincerely passionate about, research everything you can, learn as much as you can, and don’t be afraid to try. Support projects you believe in. We’re all in this together! 10. What’s the best advice you’ve ever received? There is no failure, we give up or we learn until we succeed. As long as we’re willing to try and we’re open to improvement, we can keep doing bigger and better things. Splinterlands and Play to Earn Blockchain Based Games: Noonies 2022 Interview

The SPS Validator node software is projected to go live on the main net in the third or fourth quarter of 2022. Splinterlands scheduled The SPS validator software will be open-source, allowing anyone to download, install, and use it without any additional expenses or limitations, although node licences will be obtained through SPS payment. It will first be available as a "docker container" for Linux workstations, with Windows and MacOS versions following soon after. The node software is now undergoing internal testing, with the mainnet expected to deploy in the fourth quarter of 2022. Participants who want to be a part of the new initiative might buy validator node licences at a later date. Matt Rosen, Founder & CPO of Splinterlands, said: There will be a governance system that will work through Delegated Proof of Stake (DPoS). It's very similar to Hive, BSC, and EOS. The Splinterlands team will introduce "licences," which will let all customers obtain rewards for operating nodes without having any staked SPS votes. Getting on Splinterlands was fairly easy for me . I can't express fully how I felt when I was in the Axie Infinity world, whether through their Reddit or Discord Channels. The prices for a starter team were ridiculous and I was pained at why I couldn't take up the opportunity during April when I first found out about it when the community hadn't yet exploded which made things just super oppressive. It taught me a great truth and lesson about the crypto world - . And justifying those regrets is the best way to move forward. Axie Infinity was most difficult to get into You are always gonna have regrets What I did back then And I've done ever since when faced with crippling is to tell myself this - [Had I Known situations] (1) I couldn't predict that this would turn out like this because I'm human (2) If I had the chances in my favor (time, money, risk factor) no doubt I would have savaged this opportunity. The Axie Infinity community felt oppressive, more so because of the huge noise on how people were making millions from it - Buying houses, cars, and other shit. My plan was to get in as a scholar since I had no way of affording the huge starter fee. The scholarship route CAN be a nightmare, Gosh, It began to dawn on me and I started to feel sick at some point. The number of scholars on the waitlist, , they could even take a cut of 30 - 70(in the manager's favor) if it just means they get accepted. ready to do anything to get into Axie Infinity(not literally) After sending my information manually to several "supposed" managers, I started feeling uncomfortable with the idea of sharing my information so freely with strangers. They ask a bunch of questions in a google docs file and you gotta answer them. A site is created so that players can reach out to Managers in one sitting, and while I didn't think it effective ( ), I filled in mine regardless, and Lo', , In the least way I expected, on a day that Axie Infinity was already out of my mind. Of course Not, silly Question But the Play2Earn Industry is just getting Started… And with that In mind, I kept telling myself that It was gonna be a rollercoaster in the coming months. When you go on dedicated Play2Earn communities on Reddit and Discord, you are getting filled in with huge amounts of Information. With the explosion of Axie Infinity in value, people in the space and psyched-up newcomers are aware of the life-changing, and wallet-wrecking opportunities (if I can call it that) that exist. One month in from August 2021, when my Play2Earn adventure began, I felt totally out of my mind(completely disorientated). I gather that a lot of folks felt the same way, as I did. Let me try and explain it in more verbal terms; I was feeling a lot of pressure , and furthermore, I knew they ridiculous, but here were people hyping it up and claiming the hundreds and thousands they were making from it. with the information I found online the amount of play2earn games that kept popping up was ridiculous looked I was in this space to earn money after all, and so it was hectic trying to process all that information. In fact, I was asking all these questions because I felt that I should get up to speed(ASAP) about the space being a noob and all, so I don't miss out on future opportunities; My Mind rattled with the following questions, and DID it help that I saw similar questions from other folks? Question 1 - How can I earn without Investing money?, I selfishly think that the thriving ecosystem of Play2Earn Games can be able to fend for some rewards that should be distributed rightfully to me (Pun Intended) Free Play2Earn Games Question 2 from playing and , in 2 weeks? How much realistically can I earn Splinterlands Axie Infinity Question 3 , I don't get that kind of entry Cash anywhere, what other games have an ecosystem or are currently on the rise? Ok guys alas I'm late to Axie Infinity projected to upscale My Answer to Question 1 You know what, in less than my entire four months journey with play2earn gaming, I came to realize that; If your goal is to enjoy and derive pleasure from playing blockchain games, don't even bother. Why? (1) aren't Enjoyable Majority of the Games (2) It would be difficult to find a truly enjoyable game, making it better to leave it up to chance OR give the time the industry needs to mature. That being said, it also doesn't mean there aren't games out there that can retain some user's attention, there are of course, but when I say , Nuh-uh. Addictive Games that you can lose urself in? On the other hand, if your goal is to make money by playing free-to-play games(games not requiring an initial cash investment), It's a grey area, because yeah, One game, in particular, has so far changed this status, and links are shared at the end of this post, so you can explore the Game in question. My Answer to Question 2 I saw a lot of hazy answers on this, but NONE were really suited to my unique situation. How do I mean? - It's really hard to bank on the information shared in this respect because , it's almost always a question of - . the information shared can be highly variable See for yourself For example, Imagine a Splinterlands Silver league player describing his earnings system on Reddit, I mean come on, I'm still trying to climb up from Bronzed league. But since I think I'm smart, I could try to use a simple mathematical calculation to figure out my earnings similarly. Doing this though, I might be in for a shock because what if the earnings are in exponential distribution, ? I mean, these variables are highly unpredictable. At the same time, they could work splendidly in a different scenario at the end of the day. what if the prices of the tokens fluctuate negatively the moment I start playing My Answer to Question 3 I see this question A LOT, and I mean it's only logical, people are searching for the next opportunities and they want to make sure not to miss out. This question was constantly in my head and propelled me to search far and wide, filtering through ALL Play2Earn Games I could come across, hoping for when I could run into a game early on that is to Explode. The sad truth that has finally dwelled on me is that; The same thing we saw with Axie would never (necessarily) happen in the same way it did, it's like the world is programmed in such a way, Skeptical Analysts refer to them as Black Swans, . SET Unpredictable events that happen when no one is ready, and never happen again (because everyone is ready) The Logical-Abstract Main reason Axie grew explosively was that it had a healthy economy that was not at its heels to drain the game of incentives, , it went through a transition period of , , , up until , and the Community saw this as a Blessing(before it was even captured in the media). Now that people are ready waiting, people are ready to plunge, cash out and drain any community that grows exponentially right under their eyes, , it's the BEST Example there is.
