In short, Ethermore is a Web3 blockchain game built on the Ethereum blockchain, powered by the community. NFTs The project began development in October 2020, with the first drop of 15,000 NFTs taking place in April 2021. The drop had great success with all 15,000 NFTs being sold out. An Ethermore NFT is much more than just a digital image, much more than just a collectible item to hold in your wallet. The value of an Ethermore NFT is in its utility. Ethermore NFTs are the fantasy characters/avatars a player can use in the game. Each NFT is procedurally generated, consisting of a unique blend of 6 traits which define your Ethermore character: Race Race Variant Class Subclass Background Item Gameplay Ethermore is a choose your own adventure / text adventure game inspired by Dungeons & Dragons and branching narrative RPGs. After you log on to the platform by connecting your metamask wallet, you can view your characters (the Ethermore character NFTs in your wallet) and select one to play as. Next, you head over to the quest list to see the available quests you can play. By clicking Explore, you start the quest with the current character token selected as your main character. Once you begin, you’ll see the name of the quest in the top-left side of the screen with the image of your selected character in the top-right. Like any text adventure game, much of the experience happens in the player’s mind. The story is presented in the story text, dialogue, the background images, and soon Ethermore writers will be able to upload custom background music or other audio files for each stage in the quest. Making Choices However, like any role-playing game, you have agency. You aren’t simply reading an exciting fantasy story, you are in the story and you have choices to make. This is where your character traits are put to use. Some choices in quests are exclusive to certain classes. For example, if you enter a battle scene, the actions available to you can depend on both your character’s race and class. If your foe is a dwarf and you too are a dwarf, perhaps you can use your kinship to talk them down. Or if you’re a wizard, sorcerer, or warlock, your character might have spells and abilities to cast in battle that other characters don’t. In Ethermore, the possibilities are only limited by our imagination. With countless race variants, classes, and backgrounds to work with, quest options can be tailored to any number of characteristics. Your Choices Have Consequences Most importantly, like in any good RPG, your actions have consequences. Each action can affect your character’s affinity between good and evil and contribute to chaos or order within the world of Ethermore. Steal an item from the shop and your character ends the quest a little more evil than they started. Or maybe you kept order in the realm by calming a drunkard and prevented them from inciting a brawl. In Ethermore, your choices shape your characters and most importantly, there are no resets. There are no do-overs. The choices you make are permanent and quests cannot be replayed, so choose wisely, adventurer! Lord Nole Ksum, The Great King of Nio Cegod, took control of the country when it was just a tiny group of peasants and farmers, and led Nio Cegod to glory, alongside the greatest nations of Ethermore. In his prime, King Nole Ksum was among the richest men in the history of Ethermore. However, his reign was short-lived. Nio Cegod fell as quickly as it had risen. Before historians could even put quill to paper, a plague fell on the land. It was said that like Icarus, King Nole dreamed of soaring above the clouds, and one day reaching the stars. The King spent hundreds of thousands of Ether commissioning the greatest architects and blacksmiths of Ethermore to build secret mechanisms and weapons beyond imagination. No one has ever seen King Nole's creations. Some say The King hid all his greatest treasures in Castle Egod, which was built to protect Nio Cegod's Ether mines. As the last standing Nio Cegod structure, the area is better known as The Ruins of Nio Cegod. You journey through the ruins with a party of 4: yourself, Ragnar the Wayfarer Barbarian, a Dwarf Monk called Gamlin, and Corinthia, an Elemental Windfall Sorcerer. "For the love of Rados, Gamlin!" says Ragnar. "We've been in these mines for nearly half a day and all we've found are skeletal corpses and rotten cheese." The four of you journey through the ruins, with nothing but torches and Corinthia's spells to light the way. "Quiet down, Ragnar," Gamlin says. "Those corpses didn't die of famine. Whatever killed them is likely still in here, as is Nole's treasure." Your path ends and branches off into two. Both paths are deep and dark, and you can't see what lies beyond the darkness. You take the right path and proceed cautiously. The path ends and there are 2 large wooden doors. You push against them and they don't budge. It's been a long time since these doors were opened. "Help me with this, Ragnar," you say. Ragnar sheathes his sword and the two of you push against the doors with all your might. Slowly, the large doors begin to creak open. Corinthia casts an illumination spell and an orb of light moves between you and Ragnar, as the doors give way. "Wow, would you look at that!" says Gamlin. The orb lights up the room and you find yourself in a large mess hall with great dining tables that span the entire length of the room. "This must have been where The Great King held his feasts," says Ragnar. You and your party search the room, and while all the food has either petrified or spoiled, you manage to find a couple of health potions and some Nio Cegod silverware that could fetch a good price from the right collector. The party rests and regains their strength before heading back out into the ruins. You head back the way you came and take the path on the left. The path winds and the stone walls are cracked and crumbling. Dark vines grow along the path, as well as silky grey strings. "That smell," Ragnar says, as he draws his sword. "Smells like death." Corinthia stops and examines the vines and strings on the wall. "These are...webs," she says. Then, you hear an odd clicking noise in the darkness in front of you. A white ball shoots out of the darkness, you try to dodge but the projectile grazes your neck and you feel a burning senation. "Don't let the webs touch you!" Corinthia says. They're laced with venom. You've been poisoned and take 5 damage. "Light of the Gods, show us the way," Corinthia whispers an incantation. "Illuminate!" A ball of light materializes in front of her and hovers forward, the path is illuminated and you see more vines, thicker now. And more webs as well. "Above!" Gamlin yells. You look up and see 4 monstrous hunter spiders fall from the ceiling of the cave. Ragnar lunges forward and swings his sword at one of the spiders knocking it back. One of the spiders rushes toward you. You aim for one of the spider's front legs and you tear right through it. The spider pulls its leg (or what's left of it) back in pain. The spider squeals and swings one of its sharp claws at you. It just misses your face and leaves a shallow cut in your shoulder. You take 5 damage. The spider swings at you again and you dodge it and roll around to its flank. Before the large arachnid can turn to face you. You attack and tear a hole through its torso. You step back and the spider's legs go limp. It collapses to the ground, dead. You look around and somehow your party has emerged unscathed. Ragnar laughs, "Now, that was a proper battle." Corinthia puts one hand on your shoulder and the other on your neck. "Stay still," she says. "This will only take a moment." She whispers an incantation and you feel a cooling sensation on your shoulder. The pain subsides and the cut disappears, leaving just some dried blood on your skin. Next, you feel the burning sensation on your neck fade away. You are no longer poisoned. "Thanks," you say. You hear a rustling above you, and everyone turns to look up, with their guards raised. You see a gnome squirming, trapped in a spiders web, woven into a cocoon. "Help!" the gnome yells. "Thank Rados! I thought I was dead for sure" "What are you doing up there, friend?" Ragnar says. "I was with a group looking for Nio Cegod's rumored treasure vault when these spiders ambushed us. Everyone else...was captured too and eaten. One by one. I was lucky to be last. If only you'd gotten here sooner." You pull out a dagger and move forward to cut the gnome loose, but Gamlin holds his arm out, beckoning you to wait. "And?" Gamlin says. "Did you and your party find anything before you were taken?" "Why...yes. Yes, of course," the Gnome says. "As soon as you cut me down, I'll take you to one of the vaults and we can share the spoils. I swear to Rados and may Nix strike me dead if I deceive you! Look at my chest, you see this necklace?" You squint and, through the web, you can see a shining silver locket on the Gnome's chest. "This is one of Nio Cegod's lost relics. I was able to grab it from one of the chests before the spiders took us. It's yours as soon as you set me free!" Corinthia frowns and turns to you. "What do you think? Can we trust him?" "Even if we can't trust him, we must free him or he'll die here," you say. You step forward and cut the gnome free. He drops to the ground, free of the web. He dusts himself off. "Thank you! Thank you so much, friends." "Show us that necklace there," Gamlin holds his hand out. "Of course," the Gnome says. He puts his hand on his chest and smiles. By the time you see it, it's too late. The gnome reaches into his vest's inner pocket and throws something on the ground. A cloud of smoke erupts around you. The smoke fills your lungs and you cough uncontrollably. You hear the Gnome's voice through the clouds of smoke, "Sorry," he says. "The Thieves Guild never shares." Suddenly, you feel Ragnar dash past you. "Ugh..how did you? Let me go!" You hear the gnome's voice through the smoke. Finally, the smoke clears and you see Ragnar holding the gnome up by the throat. "Let go of me, damn you!" the gnome chokes. Ragnar pulls out a dagger from his waistbelt. "Luckily for us," he says. "I never trusted this little bastard for a second." Before you can say anything, he plunges his dagger into the gnome's chest. The gnome drops to the ground, and Ragnar takes the necklace off his neck, as his life's blood leaves him. "You didn't have to kill him," you say. Ragnar hands you the necklace. "Never trust a gnome," he says. You put the necklace on and all your fatigue from the long journey seems to wash away. You received Nio Cegod's Necklace of Rejuvenation. You continue down the dark path, setting fire to the nests of spider eggs you come across. You proceed faster now than before, eager to see the other treasures hidden in the caves. "How much do you think we could get for a Mythril necklace like that, Corinthia?" Gamlin asks. Corinthia looks at the necklace's pendant on your chest. "That pendant has been enchanted with a strong spell of healing," she says."Enchanted Mythril is nearly impossible to come by. I think the four of us could live like nobles for a year just by selling that necklace alone." "What are we waiting for then" Ragnar yells. "Let's find the rest of the treasure and we'll never have to work another day in our lives!" The path ends and all that lies before you is a large cave wall. There are cracks in the stone, but no doors, no more paths to take. "No," Ragnar says. "What is this?" Corinthia places her hands on the wall and closes her eyes. "I don't sense any illusion spell." She opens her eyes. "Actually, I don't sense any magic at all. It's...it's just a wall." Gamlin swings his axe against the wall in frustration, and a spark flies from where his axe hits the stone. "For the love of Rados! You mean to tell me this was all for nothing? we're meant to leave here with just that one necklace?" When all hope seems lost, you notice it. You see a tiny hole in the wall. You look down at the pendant on your chest. Could it be that simple? You approach the wall. "It's not just a necklace," you say. "What do you mean?" Corinthia asks, as she stares at you. "It's a key." You take the necklace off, and slowly, you place the pendant into the hole in the wall. Suddenly, you hear the clanging of metal, the turning of gears. The entire cave wall begins to shake and dust falls from the ancient stone. "What's happening?" Ragnar says. The cave wall slowly slides to the left, revealing a room filled with old urns, and those urns filled with silver coins. "Ether!" Ragnar screams. In the middle of the room are 4 large chests. While the rest of your party searches the urns, you open the chests, and each one holds an item you've never seen before. In one chest, there is a longsword , its hilt made of gold and its blade pure Mythril. In the second chest, you find a black cuirass , harder and sturdier than any armor you've ever seen. In the third chest, you find a wooden staff with a glowing red stone on its ferrule. In the fourth chest, are golden gauntlets , and when you try them and swing your fists, your hands move faster than you thought possible. "All of these items are enchanted," Corinthia says. "There are four. One for each of us. You can choose first," she smiles at you. You take the longsword in your hands. "This," you say. "I was born to wield this!" You received The Great Mythril Sword of Nio Cegod. The rest of the party picks through the items and you all take as much ether as you can in your packs before heading back out of the ruins.

Let’s Play Ethermore: Part 1 – Exploring The Ruins of Nio Cegod

If you’ve ever wandered through the worlds of Skyrim or The Witcher (or any other RPG) and thought, “Hey, I could probably write an interesting quest of my own,” then Ethermore is your chance to do just that. At Ethermore, we built our own custom quest writing engine to suit our needs and to be adaptable to the features we want to build as a Web3 blockchain RPG. Our players value their NFT characters, and our engine allows us to alter character metadata based on the actions the players make in the quests. If a player kills the innocent, their character becomes much more evil. If a player donates to the poor, their character gains just a little bit of goodness. The more intricate your story, the more interesting decisions you can allow the players to make. It’ll bring you to our . Quest Maker Let’s get acquainted with it by writing our first quest. First, add a title here: It can be anything you think sums up your quest best: The Red Wedding, The Battle of the Bastards, Joining the Imperial Legion, whatever your creative mind can come up with. Next, select an image to use as the main background image throughout the quest. We have a library of images available to choose from as the default image, but you can also upload your own throughout each step in the quest. Now, let’s start writing! I’m sure you’ve noticed the “create step” button, but leave that for now. The quest maker automatically adds the first step for you. Click on it, so we can start writing. You’ll notice that there are multiple columns here: Condition Condition values Question Answers count Action We’ll go through each of these in detail later. For now, click on “Add.” After clicking on add, the quest maker will load the text editor, and this is your home. This is where all the writing happens, so get accustomed to it. Click on this empty space below the toolbar. Now, let’s move on to the fun part: adding options/choices for the player. How much do you want the choices the player makes to affect the story? How much do you want to penalize or reward players for the actions they take in Ethermore? Your answer to those questions will determine what kind of quest you write and what options you give to the player. To illustrate this and to show you how to add choices to a step in the quest, let’s pretend the player is walking through the forest and sees a bunch of bandits attacking an old man. This dropdown list determines who gets to see (and potentially choose) a quest option. Leaving it as the default means that everyone can see those options, regardless of what kind of character they are playing with. Let’s go ahead and add 2 default options: 1. Walk away and pretend you didn’t see anything, 2. Confront the brigands. To do that, leave the dropdown to default, and click on “Add Answer.” Clicking on add answer opens a new line where I can write the text that is displayed for each decision. Let’s go ahead and add 1. Walk away and pretend you didn’t see anything, and 2. Confront the brigands. Now that we’ve added these two answers and left the condition as “default,” anyone who plays this quest gets at least these 2 options. But let’s spice things up a bit and reward players for owning unique character NFTs. The best way to do that is to add custom choices for players depending on their character traits. For example, people who have specifically chosen to play with a Ranger class probably enjoy fighting from afar. All the Rangers of Ethermore have bows, so why don’t we add a choice just for them. Let’s give these players the ability to engage the enemy from afar and gain the upper hand. How to Set Exclusive Choices To do this, let’s add the option “Nook an arrow and loose it at the brigand leader’s head,” and make this option only available to those whose character is the Ranger class. To do that, first, click “save” in the bottom right. This’ll bring you back to the Step menu, and you’ll notice that you’ve successfully created 2 default options for anyone playing the quest. Now, click on the duplicate icon next to the red trash can. This makes a perfect duplicate of the work you just did. Click on the second default line. This time, click on the default drop-down menu and select “class.” Next, in the dropdown to the right, select “Ranger.” This ensures that now every option here will be only seen by those who are playing with a Ranger NFT. All that’s left to do is add our answer text, “Nook an arrow and loose it at the brigand leader’s head,” and hit Save in the bottom right. After you hit save, you’ll now see that for this step in your quest you have 2 default options for everyone in the game. And now, Rangers have those same 2 default options, plus the exclusive option to shoot their bow at the brigand leader. Congratulations! You just created your first exclusive quest option and (possibly) a branching line in the narrative. How to Set Choice Consequences In life, all our actions have consequences, and the world of Ethermore is no exception. Now that we know how to set choices, it’s time to learn how to set consequences. What are ‘consequences’ in Ethermore? When we talk about setting consequences for a player’s actions in a quest, what we really mean is triggering a change in their character’s affinity between good and evil, chaos and order. Currently, these are the two metadata attributes you can trigger a change in depending on the quest options you provide. For example, let’s say the character has to decide whether or not to steal an item when the shopkeeper has turned his back. If the player does steal the item, you can trigger a -1 on the Good/Evil scale, which will then be added to the player’s metadata at the end of the quest, affecting their character’s overall affinity. These changes in affinity will be shown in the quest results at the end of each quest. You can see in this example the character made choices that resulted in a -2 in the Chaos-Order attribute. A negative score means we leaned toward Chaos or Evil. A positive score means we worked towards Order or Good. In this example in the image above, I gained two Chaos points. Perhaps I stole someone’s sweetroll! Setting Choice Consequences in the Quest Maker How to set these consequences is actually pretty simple. Let’s go back to our previous example of the brigands harassing an old man. One of our options was to walk away. Turning a blind eye to injustice seems kind of evil to me, so let’s make sure the player knows they did something bad by giving them a -1 in the Good-Evil alignment score for this action. First, Click on the Eye Icon This will open up a new window. Next, click “Select Action.” Then, select “Change Metadata.” After that, click on “Please select metadata method.” From this dropdown, select Evil/good. Then, under “set points” we can set the score based on the severity of the action. Right now, we’re working on a 3 point scale, meaning: +3 = really good act (saving someone’s life) +2 = moderately good act (helping a lost child find their mother) +1 = fairly good act (giving a coin to a beggar) -1 = slightly evil act (shouting insults at someone) -2 = moderately evil act (stealing from a shop) -3 = really evil act (murdering someone) So, for the act of turning a blind eye to an old man being robbed, let’s call it a slightly evil act and give this player a -1. Finally, hit “save” in the bottom right, and we’re done! You can follow the exact same process for changing a player’s chaos/order affinity. This is the ability to have a hero (or heroes) in a fantasy setting, represented by NFTs, which allow you to do a number of things. So there is a collectible aspect, especially with the art. There are aspects to me completely moral and just, rigid and unyielding when its comes to principles of truth and virtue. (My current main character is a Giant Paladin, and he will for sure take this path). There are also aspects of me that are chaotic and rebellious, where testing limits and pushing boundaries are more exciting than being diligent and dutiful. One thing in common is the tendency to goodness. I think people who have played table-top games likes D&D tend to grasp the concepts most easily, but anyone who likes being creative and imaging the story in "the theater of the mind" as Dan (one of the Ethermore founders) likes to put it, will get a lot out of it. Which, building on Dybsy's comment, facilitates the community being able to evolve over time. One of the planned features is a voting mechanism using the NFTs. This has a lot of narrative potential, but in the longer-term, it also allows the community to coordinate and vote on other kinds of things, like which direction to take the Ethermore universe or even what kinds of development should happen. And people can buy and sell the NFTs as their time/interest/passion changes, allowing new people to get involved all the time. And those tokens are not dependent on any centralized entity. Among NFTs, one of the other projects I've been involved with that encourages holder lore creation is the Forgotten Runes Wizards Cult. Among non-NFT properties, there are so many influences. Although I have not played D&D extensively, I have played games based on D&D concepts such as the Baldur's Gate series, as well as newer games like Dragon Age: Origins. I agree that you see a lot of the latter in this space, which provides the contrast to what this team is doing. Beyond commissioning the artwork and issuing the NFTs, the team has been hard at work building various systems to complement them. And they often prefer to build something tailor-made for Ethermore rather than a 3rd party tool that may not be fully suited to their vision. Some examples are the sidequest system, which allows the community to create fun text-based adventures for token-holders, and the token web dashboard, which provides a lot of stats regarding the value of different types of heroes. There have been lots of questions about whether there are game play videos and what this game will look like, etc. I'm not privy to what's being developed, but my understanding is that Ethermore is very much like DnD on the chain; that is, imaginative and text-based adventuring where community influences the decisions. With that said, the current state of play is not about the community but about exploring your own character identity. The sidequests written thus far offer choices to be made and what I call identity drift. Many of the ideas and mechanics I could easily see being included in a traditional graphical RPG. And I think that in a few years time we will see Elder Scrolls-like blockchain games, where you can own your character + items as tokens. Many of the people who visit the Ethermore discord get excited by this idea and want to play Ethermore as a graphical RPG/MMO. But that kind of AAA game takes a lot of time and effort to build. Although I am not in the games industry, I have read some books about how even with crunch conditions, what might seem like a minor change to a game to outsiders could actually take months of work. But I see Ethermore as a pioneer in this space - I have no doubt that many of the systems and innovations that the team comes up with, will influence the blockchain gaming industry as a whole. I am a big fan of pixel & voxel art and Ethermore clearly stands out. I did not even know about the depth of the project at first and only thought of it as "another pfp". That changed quickly of course. Ethermore is clearly bigger than the NFT itself, it really tries to utilize a lot of different aspects of blockchain infrastructure and weaves that into a unique experience. You have quests, characters, factions, lore, cartography, morale and the a grand narrative of a fight between good and evil. On top of all that, it will be governed by a DAO in the future which of course engages and incentivizes players to be active in the community. Plus it is all very early and you can really have an impact as an individual. And what keeps me engaged are all the nice folks that I have met so far. I'm gonna be honest here - I don't have any past connections to RPGs or similar style games. But what I have discovered about myself so far while playing the quests is that I have a hard time pretending to be anything other than my real self 🙂 The overall narrative that drove me to Ethermore is decentralization. I started to investigate Crypto in 2017 and strongly believe that this is the way forward for society - away from centralized power and giving ownership of data, money etc. back to the individual. Ethereum would be the project to name for me. On a more personal level I love nature & hiking, reading (especially Scandinavian crime novels) and music of all genres. Overall very curious to try out new things. If you get into it, it is so obvious that Ethermore will be one of the clear winners of this current NFT year. The hype reminds me of the ICO days - different acronym but similar dynamics. A lot of projects with little to no vision while a few with outstanding communities, teams and tech behind it. The launch of nine-spot Ether exchange-traded funds (ETFs) heralded a brave new world for cryptocurrency adoption on Wall Street, with the world’s largest altcoin amassing over $1 billion in trading volumes on its first day. Is the ETH ETF’s performance a statement of intent? Or a flash in the pan? Spot Ether ETFs commanded an opening day cumulative trading volume of $1.08 billion. This total has been heralded as a success by James Seyffart, senior ETF analyst at Bloomberg, with BlackRock’s iShares Ethereum Trust ETF (ETHA) drawing in $266 million in investment. Ether’s opening day attracted around 23% of the total trading volume experienced by Bitcoin on the first day of trading for the cryptocurrency’s spot BTC ETFs in January 2024. While it would be fanciful for investors to expect Ether to emulate Bitcoin’s success as the most successful ETF launch in financial history, the cryptocurrency’s superior functionality has often caused its biggest supporters to speculate that Ethereum could one day replace Bitcoin as the world’s most dominant cryptocurrency. Early Warning Signs On its second day, spot Ether ETFs experienced a dip in trading to $951 million in cumulative trading volume, representing a logical dip in the wake of its opening day furor. Despite this relatively strong start to life on Wall Street, there are some warning signs that the impact of the ETH ETF may not be all it seems. The value of Ethereum, the cryptocurrency attached to the spot Ether ETF, fell almost 10% on the second day of trading. The cause for this stemmed from concerns over the hefty $133 million outflows for the exchange-traded fund at such an early stage in its launch. The underlying asset tumbled to a value of around $3,150, pushing the coin further adrift from its all-time high of $4,878, recorded in November 2021. Perhaps more worrying is that Ethereum has failed to generate meaningful momentum since Q1 2024, when the cryptocurrency was driven higher by Bitcoin’s post-ETF rally. Despite the SEC’s approval of spot Ether ETFs in May, ETH ended Q2 2024 lower than the first quarter. So why has Ethereum failed to rally as a result of its exchange-traded fund? One solution could be that investors were more willing to sell the news than treat it as a long-term hold opportunity. The other, more worryingly, is that investors don’t have enough faith in the longevity of Ethereum. Measuring the Significance of Ether Although it’s fair to say that Ether and Bitcoin are extremely different cryptocurrencies, it’s actually Ethereum that has a technical advantage over its more famous counterpart. Bitcoin’s market capitalization of $1.28 trillion is a major draw for investors due to its scarcity and pre-programmed halving mechanism that’s expected to keep its long-term value rising. Ethereum, however, is far less scarce but offers significant technical advantages that Bitcoin could never compete with. Today, Ether is a driving force in the thriving decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem. Powering major blockchain innovations like smart contracts, new consensus mechanisms, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), peer-to-peer (P2P) lending, and much more, Ethereum ETFs offer investors the chance to buy into the next generation of financial technology. “Overall, the approval of spot Ethereum ETFs is likely to lead to wider adoption, greater market liquidity, and increased legitimacy for Ethereum, as well as potentially increasing institutional investment and positively impacting the broader cryptocurrency market,” explained Maxim Manturov, head of investment research at Freedom24. It’s this element of increased legitimacy that could be telling in the future. Packed with a more advanced blockchain that facilitates faster network speeds and lower gas fees, Solana has been building momentum in recent months. So, could Ethereum fall into trouble in the face of mounting competition? Nicole Nguyen Mar 10, 2022, 8:26 AM SuperSaiyanProgramming Thanks for the question and I assume you might be a heavy card gamer 😄 I think blockchain gaming has just started - it's not just about bringing mainstream games onto the blockchain. There's a whole different world of web3 and metaverse where you can build parallel or different dimensions of business model, designs, and structure of the game. Blockchain is not just about tokenization or NFTs - it does offer multitudes of value such as asset verification, incentivization, community ownership, proven fairness, and randomization. The first and foremost differentiator we are trying to make is to actually eradicate the barriers between blockchain games and mainstream games in terms of design and gameplay. We want to build a game of kickass design and intense gameplay to start with. Also, we have developed in-house infrastructure to make sure that the card distribution can be verified totally random on the blockchain, and eventually, the community will be the main owners of the game once the DAO model kicks in. Also, we do not follow the much-saturated path of Play2Earn - Duelist King aims to incentivize people through winnings and tournament prizes or Win2Earn i.e. a much more winding road yet a more sustainable direction for a game to survive and thrive on its own. Nicole Nguyen Mar 10, 2022, 8:36 AM Really great questions and I think they are like industry-scope challenges 😄 Metaverse is not a novel concept and I believe each project has its own concept and vision about their metaverse. I would strongly agree with any vision that focuses on interoperability and composability of metaverse infrastructure since that's where the community, the underdogs, and smaller players can leverage and initialize their projects or ideas. Duelist King is speaking to some projects like Sandbox and competitors to Sandbox too (why not?) to see how we can bring better experiences for our gamers - at the end of the day, we think that's all that matters since we will be able to offer much more values and collaborative experiments for our gamers. NFTs and blockchain gaming are thriving - just in the last quarter alone, they account for 42% of the venture funding into blockchain projects according to research by The Block. Numerous projects have failed to prove their use cases but a lot of the projects are still focusing on building. Still, the barrier between blockchain games and games is relatively eminent when it comes to design and gameplay although Play2Earn has done a good job of enticing an influx of newbies to blockchain gaming. I think moving forward, not only us but other blockchain projects are focusing on refining gamer's experiments and finding a better and more sustainable incentives or earning models for the game to slowly transition from Play2Earn. For Duelist King, we make sure that the community is well aware and informed of all information about the project and our regular engagement schemes. Also, the feedback and communication loop between us are encouraged and also incentivized so that the community can absorb the milestones and vision of Duelist King becoming a community-owned and driven project. Additionally, we were inspired by Yu-Gi-Oh and GWENT at the start of game development although we did have a number of reiterations with the game to make sure it's unique, fun, and just intense and hardcore enough for both newbies and crypto gamers. The art is inspired by a number of folklores and myths that you can observe across different cultures like vampires, werewolves, shamans, etc. Everyone can see a piece of their childhood heroes or characters in Duelist King and eventually we will allow the community to come up with the card design and also gameplay.
