Stardew Valley has been a fan-favorite game within the farming and life simulator genres since its release back in 2016.

With over 100 hours of gameplay and great replayability, many players have enjoyed their playthrough of Stardew Valley and now are on the lookout for something similar.

Thankfully, there are many great games like Stardew Valley in 2023, and in this list, I will mention the five best ones that you should try out.

List of Games Like Stardew Valley in 2023

  1. Coral Island
  2. Wylde Flowers
  3. Travellers Rest
  4. Core Keeper
  5. Disney Dreamlight Valley

Honorable Mention: Haunted Chocolatier

1. Coral Island

Moving around the main farm in Coral Island.

Coral Island is Stardew Valley with modern graphics and a slight focus on underwater exploration.

Coral Island is a farming sim where you make money by building your farm, growing your crops, and selling them to the townspeople. At the same time, you build relationships with each villager and split your focus between mining, farming, and diving.

The only setback is that Coral Island is currently in Early Access. It was released back in October 2022, but many end-game features are still missing. One feature that is still missing, and that players have been asking for since launch, is multiplayer.

However, it has been receiving constant updates, with a big patch announced for March 2023.

The final decision is up to you: try it now or wait for its full release, where everything will be included. Either way, if you enjoyed Stardew Valley, you should try Coral Island.

2. Wylde Flowers

Harvesting fruit from trees in Wylde Flowers.

Wylde Flowers is a farming and life sim that features similar gameplay elements to Stardew Valley. Its unique twist is the addition of magic elements.

Also, Wylde Flowers is one of the best games like Stardew Valley on the Nintendo Switch console.

In Wylde Flowers, players can transform into animals, brew potions, and use unique spells. At the same time, they are also growing crops, befriending villagers, and mining ores.

One core difference with Stardew Valley is that Wylde Flowers has a large focus on story, and it doesn’t have much replayability while also being a single-player game.

3. Travellers Rest

Managing your brewery in Travellers Rest.

Travellers Rest is a life and farming sim that has similar features to Stardew Valley. The main difference is that in Travellers Rest, the player is, first and foremost, an innkeeper.

It includes activities such as farming, exploring, and building relationships with villagers, while players can also brew their own beer and constantly upgrade the inn.

In addition, it features a co-op game mode which makes it one of the overall best games like Stardew Valley to try in 2023 with friends.

Lastly, Travellers Rest is stillreceiving constant updates and plans to add animal husbandry soon.

4. Core Keeper

Fishing underground in Core Keeper.

Core Keeper is Stardew Valley but with a major focus on mining since it takes place below the ground.

In Core Keeper, players build an underground base, explore caves, farm crops, and upgrade their gear while defeating the main bosses of the game.

If your favorite aspects in Stardew Valley were mining and combat, Core Keeper is a must-try. Especially since it’s multiplayer and you can experience this underground adventure with friends.

While the game is still in early access, it has a solid amount of content that justifies its price. Additionally, it often receives updates that add new content, such as the recent anniversary update.

5. Disney Dreamlight Valley

Fishing with Donald Duck in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

Disney Dreamlight Valley is Stardew Valley in a Disney theme. Farm crops, mine ore, and interact with the villagers (who are all characters from Disney movies) while also progressing multiple unique storylines, all inspired by Disney movies.

It features more modern graphics compared to Stardew Valley and focuses more on story than sandbox elements.

However, the game is in early access, and not all features have been added yet. Despite that, the devs are constantly adding new characters, storylines, and content, with the 2023 roadmap looking fairly generous. While the game is currently only single-player, the multiplayer feature has been announced in the roadmap.

Honorable Mention: Haunted Chocolatier

If there’s one game that can fully reach the potential of Stardew Valley, that’s Haunted Chocolatier.

Haunted Chocolatier is a game that hasn’t been released yet and is currently being developed by the same developer as Stardew Valley: Eric ‘Concerned Ape’ Barone.

While we don’t have much information on it yet, in a recent interview, ConcernedApe mentioned that he has big plans for Haunted Chocolatier. It will have a bigger focus on combat compared to Stardew Valley, while it will also include magical elements.

Players will run a shop and will have to satisfy the desires of customers if they want to receive high ratings and grow their business.

While we don’t know much about the game yet, check out the video below for some early-access gameplay:

Overall, make sure to follow ConcernedApe on Twitter to keep an eye out for any progress updates on the development of Haunted Chocolatier. Overall, its release date is estimated at some point in 2024.

If you enjoyed Stardew Valley, definitely keep your eyes on Haunted Chocolatier, as it will feature many similar elements.
