What Will the Jobs of the Future Look Like?

Workers between the ages of 18 and 24 are now more likely to change jobs about five times on average. More than 90% of people stated feeling happier at their jobs when they have more control over their work hours and the opportunity to work remotely. The jobs of the future would entail changes to the workplace that resonate with our new needs, such as having workspaces designed for comfort with attractive perks that include nap rooms and the ability to bring your pets to work. Skills like cognitive flexibility, people management, emotional intelligence, and innovation will remain important for jobs of future.

With the condition of the economy being as uncertain as ever, it’s important to understand what this means when it comes to the jobs of the future. Workers between the ages of 18 and 24 are now more likely to change jobs about five times on average, which is about twice as many job changes compared to the older generations. In fact, more than 90% of people stated feeling happier at their jobs when they have more control over their work hours and the opportunity to work remotely with about 61% of workers considering switching jobs if they are able to work from home. 

Working from home comes with several benefits, including gaining more time with family, saving more money, and increasing morale which all accumulate into increased happiness experienced outside of work. The jobs of the future would entail changes to the workplace that resonate with our new needs, such as having workspaces designed for comfort with attractive perks that include nap rooms and the ability to bring your pets to work. Other changes could also include having more choices in where you want to work, sharing ideas with workers across different groups and locations, and using digital assistants to help complete assignments.

As companies continue to use more technology to streamline work, it’s important for workers to value their creativity and human relationships in order to hold a successful career. Skills like cognitive flexibility, people management, emotional intelligence, and innovation will remain important for jobs of the future. 

In recent years, there have been particular occupations that have grown quickly and are predicted to continuously grow at a fast pace for the next few years. For example, home health aides are expected to add 924,000 new jobs by 2031 with a median annual salary of $29,430. Restaurant cooks are also predicted to add at least 459,900 new jobs by 2031 with a median annual salary of $39,010. Software developers come next with about 370,600 new jobs added to the job market within 10 years with an appealing median annual salary of $120,730. 

The job landscape is continuously changing, so it’s best to know what jobs are and will be in high demand in the near future.
