Hi, folks! Despite the waning popularity of X / Twitter among certain communities, it still remains one of the largest platforms for user engagement and an integral part of any crypto marketing strategy, regardless of the size of your startup.

Sure, potential Crypto Twitter killers like DeBank, Farcaster, and Mastodon are emerging, poised to siphon off the crypto audience. They’re less cluttered with spam and noise, making them ideal, especially during the early stages of community building, and I’m planning to share tips on growing accounts on these platforms for web3 startups soon.

But in the meantime, here’s a top 10 list of terrible tips for Twitter, each one a popular mistake, not a guide to action! Please avoid these practices if you really want to build a quality X/Twitter community!

If you have any queries on crypto marketing strategy, message me in DM for advice!

1. Crypto Giveaways: Focus on Quantity Over Quality

Don’t bother growing your follower base organically; it's slow and laborious. Instead, use giveaways with simple rules: e.g., RT, tag 10 friends for a prize of just 15 USD. That'll surely attract the big crypto whales to your project, right?

Lifehack: Ask giveaway influencers to boost your contest. For an extra ~30 bucks, they'll promote your contest to their high-quality audience!

2. Meme Contests

Prepare for a flood of generic creativity, thanks to AI tools. Set a prize fund of about 100 USD and distribute it among 20 winners. Who needs uniqueness?

3. Forget JTBD and CustDevs. Post Only What Interests You

Ignore customer development or understanding your audience’s needs. Post whatever you fancy; eventually, you’ll attract a community that shares your exact interests.

4. Only Tech Content

Avoid any personal or behind-the-scenes content. Your followers are only here for the heavy tech jargon. If they don’t need a dictionary, you’re doing it wrong.

5. Use Your Twitter Account Everywhere

Log in to different websites with your enterprise Twitter account. It’s a time saver and helps websites tailor ads just for you.

6. Excessive Hashtags

The more, the merrier. #Crypto #Blockchain #Moon #Lambo #ToTheMoon #HODL #BuyNow – you get the gist.

7. Overuse Buzz Phrases

“We’re thrilled to announce” should be your go-to. It's cliché, but hey, everyone's using it!

8. Emojis Galore

Flood your messages with emojis. They say clarity and professionalism, right?

9. Outsource Everything to AI. Fire copywriter!

Why bother with a copywriter when AI can handle all your content? Set it and forget it.

10. Partner with Questionable Projects

Team up with any project that slides into your DMs. No need to worry about due diligence or reputation.

P.S. These are atrocious tips for growing your Crypto Twitter account. Don't follow them! While some of these points may seem absurd, you'll notice many respected crypto projects actually use these tactics. When developing your own strategy, try to learn from others' mistakes. And remember, I'm always here for advice and new connections. Stay tuned for part two of these harmful tips! I wish you the best of luck in your cryptocurrency journey!
