This story is a part of Hacker Noon's Meet the Writer series of interviews. The series is intended for tech professionals contributing the most insightful Hacker Noon stories to share more about their writing habits, ideas, and professional background (and maybe a hobby or two).

If you too would like to start contributing to Hacker Noon, you can do so here.

So let’s start! Tell us a bit about yourself. For example, name, profession, and personal interests.

My name is Khamisi Hamisi. I come from Mombasa, Kenya. I help small businesses grow their social media profiles. Other than that, I enjoy fishing, filming short films, and eating.

Interesting! What was your latest Hackernoon Top story about?

I wrote about the different mistakes people make when it comes to Facebook ads. The article will help businesses avoid these mistakes and increase their ROI.

If you like Khamisi’s topic, this is the story: 3 Reasons Your Facebook Ads Are Performing Poorly

Do you usually write on similar topics? If not, what do you usually write about?

Yes, I focus on topics about social media. However, during my free time, I write poetry and short film scripts.

Great! What is your usual writing routine like (if you have one?)

Currently, I do not have a routine. However, most of my inspiration comes from the successes of my clients.

Being a writer in tech can be a challenge. It’s not often our main role, but an addition to another one. What is the biggest challenge you have when it comes to writing?

Indeed it is challenging. My biggest challenge so far is making people understand some of the terms in tech. Many businesses are new to social media. I always have to make it simple for them to understand and at the same time pass my point across without diluting it.

What is the next thing you hope to achieve in your career?

I am hoping to create award-winning documentaries in the future. I have always wanted to tell stories through film.

Wow, that’s admirable. Now, something more casual: What is your guilty pleasure of choice?

I baby talk to my cat a lot. My friends find it weird but, my cat loves it. If she loves it, then I do too. The cat is always right.

I do. I love fishing. We live close to the ocean, and I have been in love with it since a younger age. Fishing, to me, is like therapy. The sound of the waves hitting the boat, the patience needed to catch fish, the blues skies, and so much more makes me love it.

What can the Hacker Noon community expect to read from you next?

The Hacker Noon community should expect more tips and tricks on how to grow their businesses on social media.
