In this slogging AMA, we had the pleasure of chatting with the cofounders of Inevitable Media, Tiago Amaral and Kaynã Rodrigues. We talk to them about their platform, how they will onboard billions into the Metaverse and what the future holds for Web 3.0
This Slogging thread by Jack Boreham, Yoram Kornatzky, Tiago Amaral, Kaynã Rodrigues, Limarc Ambalina, Mónica Freitas, Cris Silva and Abeer occurred in slogging's official #amas channel, and has been edited for readability.
Hey @channel, please join me in welcoming our next AMA guests, Tiago Amaral and Kaynã Rodrigues, the cofounders of Inevitable Media. Their mission is to build tools, content and certifications to help onboard billions of people to web 3.0 and the Metaverse.
Please feel free to ask Tiago and Kayna anything about:
Hey, Kaynã Rodrigues Tiago Amaral, a pleasure to have you with us! Can we start off this AMA by you guys explaining a bit about yourself, your background and how Inevitable came to be?
Hey guys! Happy to be here! Kaynã and I worked together on a startup. We always kept in touch and talked about the things we wanted to build. We decided to bet on an inevitable industry: Crypto.
We believe in the future of technology - beyond speculation and bubbles - and we know it will impact many industries.
Kaynã is our tech-genius and I've worked in marketing, content, growth and product positions 🙂
Hello, Can we get a link to your site?
Yoram Kornatzky here! https://inevitable.media
Thanks
Tiago Amaral Fantastic! The perfect match. So what made you take the bet on crypto. It's a highly speculative market? I love the name, by the way, a perfect play on words. Can you explain a bit about what inevitable is? 😄
Jack Boreham totally! Because it's a new ecosystem with new technology, speculation, bubbles and confusion are almost the rules of the game. The internet has gone through this too. That's why our mission is precisely to help onboard the millions of people to this new world of web3 and metaverse, but in the right way, beyond "get rich quick". With Inevitable, we are building technology and education to bring more people into this new world 😄 The name Inevitable was inspired by a book published by Kevin Kelly, called The Inevitable
Hello hello, guys! Thanks for the welcome and sorry for the delay 😅
As Tiago said I'am the tech man and he is the big picture all-seeing wizard, so he guides us where to go and I find a way to make it happen.
I'm pretty excited about what we are doing at Inevitable because I believe the technology we are aiming to democratize can open interesting new possibilities for users, creators and businesses
What a cool name for a company!!!
So let me approach this AMA from a different angle than I normally do. On the side, I'm part of a team working on a blockchain game called Ethermore: http://ethermore.xyz
What aspects of the blockchain game development cycle can your company help with?
Thanks, Limarc Ambalina!
I really like the game, I'm all about pixel art and yours is looking awesome.
The part of a game like yours that we are able to help with currently (we are always developing new integrations and functionality modules) is the generation of the 15k combinations, a customizable website with all the components of a usual collection landing page and integrated minting flow using gasless transactions.
An important point is that during the generation of the assets we allow you to create any trait associate it with a PNG layer or not, and define a rarity for that trait. The random token generated during minting takes those trait rarities into consideration.
Hi Tiago Amaral and Kaynã Rodrigues! It's great to have you here! How do you think the Metaverse will impact us? Do you think it will be everything we imagine when talking about metaverse?
Hi Mónica Freitas, great talking to you!
We like to think of the metaverse as comparing it to the internet.
Now, as it is in the hype, we have a lot of discussions about what the Metaverse is and what it isn't.
For us, the Metaverse is nothing more than the internet we have today, but with the addition of new protocols, hardware and software. It will be the result of the convergence of various industries such as blockchain, VR/AR, NFTs, and so on.
We are still in the experimentation stage and I imagine we will be at this stage for some time.
During the next few years, we should talk a lot about "going to the Metaverse", just as we talked about the internet back then.
In the 90s, it was common to talk about "surfing the internet". It was a place we went to. Today, the internet become something so ubiquitous that we only notice it when it's not here.
I imagine the Metaverse will go this way, too. At first, it will be a space for experimentation and that everyone "goes". Then, as technology advances and hardware and software costs decrease, it will become more ubiquitous.
And just like the internet, this convergence of new technologies will impact every industry in ways we can't even imagine right now.
Tiago Amaral, I think this is the clearest explanation anyone has ever given me on metaverse 😄 thank you! How do you think companies such as Inevitable could fit into the metaverse?
Mónica Freitas right now our goal is to educate people + build tools to empower brands and creators. There's still a lot of confusion - and a lot of scams - in this new scenario. Education is essential for people to really understand the technological side of things, far beyond trading NFTs or the hype of some collections, for example.
Hi! What do you think Web 3 will look like in the future?
Cris Silva This is a tough question! hahaha It's like asking in 2000 what the internet of the future would be like.
We have some hypotheses, one of which is that the "battle" between centralization and decentralization will get more intense. Not just from the business side, but from the users. Today, many Web3 users advocate decentralization of everything. While we really like the concept, there are some problems. How to bring billions of users into this ecosystem if everything is decentralized?
Coinbase, for example, is a centralized entity, but it was responsible for bringing millions and millions of users into the crypto world.
We believe that the next few years will be amazing for anyone thinking about building infrastructure. We need to build the roads so that people can enter this new world and build products that are simple to use and really useful for them on a daily basis.
I would say that Web 3 could be a more decentralized Web 2, rather than saying something like a fully decentralized Web 2.
Kaynã Rodrigues Tiago Amaral, so if you can talk about it haha, what educational tools are you building, and what does the development process look like?
Jack Boreham the educational part we are building is based on creating content accessible to the general public, we are starting off with a beginner course then we'll build on top of that to specific target audiences. The technical part of this is using our own platform to create the certifications for these courses. Since the smart contracts that issue the course completion certificates are public, they are also auditable by anyone.
This tokenized education contributes to the point we are always trying to press. WHAT'S BEYOND THE ART? WHAT'S BEYOND SPECULATIVE PROFIT?
Oh wow! It sounds like your company can get an NFT project off the ground for people who have the graphics ready.
While a lot of people are raving about NFTs, I've hardly seen novel use cases for them in terms of utility. What are the best applications of NFTs in your opinion today? And how do you think they'll be used (and be more than just a jpeg) in the future?
Limarc Ambalina, we totally agree with you. Today, we are in a period of speculation. Everything is soooo new. Scott Belsky, the co-founder of Behance, says that in many products "Novelty precedes utility". This is exactly the case with NFTs now. They are new and we are starting to learn how we can use them. We see possible uses for them in various industries, such as real estate, healthcare, education, in addition to, of course, those we already have today, such as entertainment and games. Anything that needs to have a unique record can become an NFT. Of course, we will need to overcome bubbles and speculation until we get to this point
Hey Tiago Amaral and Kaynã Rodrigues! Where do you see Smart Contracts fitting in? Are there any industries that could dramatically be impacted them?
Hello Abeer! I see smart contracts being an underlying tech in everything in the future, like databases or APIs. Today the utilities we see are NFTs and DeFi, but interoperable identification of users and verifiable ownership of assets is going to permeate every industry.
It could substitute username and password logins, dramatically simplify online shopping experiences and improve the standard of privacy on the web.
The problem we have now is adoption and integration. When web3 is integrated natively by the main browsers and the general public understands how it works and what it is used for (instead of the stigma of speculative NFT collections), we will have a dramatically different relation with the web and vision of what it can be.
Tiago Amaral Kaynã Rodrigues wow, that's so interesting. So what would the beginners cost consist of? Is it kind of like a metaverse for dummies course 😂
Hey Jack Boreham! Our idea with the first course, called Non-Fungible Course: Introduction to NFTs, is that students can understand, from scratch, the technology behind NFTs, current use cases, and why this is a revolutionary technology. We will have 5 lessons:
1st Lesson: WTF are NFTs
2nd Lesson: 27 Concepts You Need to Learn
3rd Lesson: The NFTs Ecosystem
4th Lesson: Beyond Art
5th Lesson: The Future of NFTs + Your Certificate
After this first one we will launch several others, also talking about Web 3.0, Metaverse, Smart Contracts, marketing in this new world, and so on 🙂
Tiago Amaral Kaynã RodriguesSounds great! Haha, can I enrol now? I definitely would like to brush up on NFT jargon 😂. So when do you expect to release these crash courses? What does the next year look like for Inevitable?
Hey Jack Boreham! We should launch this first course in the next few weeks (stay tuned at https://inevitable.academy :D). In 2022 for Inevitable, we want to launch more and more courses while continuing to work on our tools and technologies. From our point of view, it's no use just creating technology and throwing it at people and saying, "Okay, here it is. Use it." We need to educate them about the technology so that they are willing to use it and know how to use it the right way
Tiago Amaral where can people learn more about this? Can you share some of your resources?
Mónica Freitas it is one of the best resources out there if people want to really understand NFTs: https://future.a16z.com/nft-canon/. It is an aggregation of articles, videos, and podcasts curated by the investment fund Andreessen Horowitz. I think it's a great way to get started (besides, of course, following Inevitable on social media hahaha). We have been creating a lot of content through my LinkedIn profile (https://www.linkedin.com/in/tiago4maral/) and Inevitable as well (https://www.linkedin.com/school/byinevitable).
Tiago Amaral Kaynã Rodrigues. It's been so great to have you on, but unfortunately, we are going to have to wrap up this AMA. Thank you for your insightful answers. To wrap up any final thoughts for our readers and where can people check out you and Inevitable?
