Too Long; Didn't Read

The book assists Architects and Engineers involved in the development of software in assessing whether a Microservice Architecture meets the business needs and requirements. “Microservice Architecture - The Decision Maker” is very crisp and explains the advantages and disadvantages of adopting microservices which facilitate the decision process, keeping the title's promise.

This book assists Architects and Engineers involved in the development of software in assessing whether a Microservice Architecture meets the business needs and requirements. Microservice adoption is increasingly important, but there are few resources that share detailed information on the decision-making process.

This book series fills that gap.

“Microservice Architecture - The Decision Maker” is very crisp and explains the advantages and disadvantages of adopting microservices which facilitate the decision process, keeping the title's promise.

In Chapter 1, the author makes a clear distinction between tiers and layers in software paradigms. They are both used loosely as interchangeable words, but the truth is that these are not interchangeable at all. The author does an excellent job in explaining the differences and explaining the monolithic architecture with its problem that has persisted in industry for quite some time.

In Chapter 2, We get a glimpse of various Software Architecture Types like Monolith, SOA, Microservice, and Serverless, so a quick glance at all these architectures is a good refresher before we begin learning more about Microservices. The chapter also covers the positives and challenges of the microservice architecture and includes the State of Adoption of Microservices and other types of Architecture in 2021. Readers can see how many projects around the world are using each type of software architecture.

In Chapter 3, the author discusses the risks associated with microservice architecture if it is not planned properly. He shares various links for planning microservice architecture projects. The author lastly shares his own experiences in the projects he has worked on, which is a good lesson for any of us who get into details before we decide on the Microservices Strategy for our organizations.

In Chapter 4, we learn about how monolithic architectures can evolve into microservice architectures, as well as the challenges in the process. Next, the author who is hands-on discusses the branching strategy. Overall, he asks questions, every now and then, to Developers, QA, and DevOps team thus covering the entire process of product development in the microservice world.

I eagerly await the next book in this series titled “Microservices Architecture – The Software Architect”. As far as I know, the author might bring in the aspect of developing the Microservice Architecture, Infrastructural Concerns, Reference Implementation. It may also include explanation of the popular Design Patterns and Data Management Patterns related to Microservices. It is expected anytime this year, all the published and subsequent booklets in the series will be available worldwide on Amazon and on Bookshelves. Also, an eBook version for Kindle is planned by the same time.
