"Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg has unveiled several ambitious artificial-intelligence projects, describing AI as "the key to unlocking the Metaverse".
In a livestreamed demonstration, he created a basic virtual world - including an island, trees and a beach - using the AI feature Builder Bot.
Mr Zuckerberg also announced a plan to build a universal speech translator".

"The ability to communicate with anyone in any language is a superpower that was dreamt of forever," he said.
Builder Bot was part of Meta's CAIRaoke project to improve AI assistants and allow "AI to see the world from our experience" as people entered virtual reality via headsets or glasses, Mr Zuckerberg said".

Jack Boreham uh universal translator??? I've wished for that since I was a kid 😂

Mónica FreitasFeb 24, 2022, 6:35 PM

Jack Boreham AI will be the thing that truly launches the metaverse. We've seen the power of AI in all other areas - marketing, production, online services, etc. If Zuckerberg manages to infuse AI in a manner that supports the metaverse... it'll be a game-changer.

Mónica Freitas interesting perspective. I think this could be the case. But it better be good AI that doesn't take our privacy away. There is also an argument to be made that quantum computers will also play a part

Jack Boreham, I imagine that they're going to need fast and resistant computers to run the metaverse. So, maybe a mash of both strategies?

Sara PintoMar 1, 2022, 9:51 PM

Jack Boreham I second the universal translator thing! From all the AMAs we've done, my understanding is that AI is a powerful key to developing the Metaverse. I believe it could upgrade our experiences in the Metaverse

Mónica Freitas Sara Pinto, both great points. I think it will be a mix of things. I put the same question on Linkedin, and I got similar responses. But I don't believe so relying on just I'm AI is a good idea. After all, web3 will mostly be community-owned.

Mónica FreitasMar 2, 2022, 4:13 PM

Jack Boreham, I think we're heading for a community-owned web. We've seen TikTok's impact already, and I feel this will be the norm.

Jack BorehamMar 3, 2022, 8:18 AM

Mónica Freitas, I agree, but would you say TikTok users really have control?

Mónica FreitasMar 3, 2022, 5:46 PM

Jack Boreham the app certainly makes its preferences clear. There are a lot of reports of accounts being deactivated wrongly and others are free to do whatever and spread whatever message. Yet, it has brought a different notion to social platforms. Way different from Instagram or Facebook

Jack Boreham I definitely can see AI playing a big part in Web3 and the Metaverse similar to how APIs and the rise of Web & Mobile applications play a big part in Web 2.0. I’m just wary of how he might be trying to profit off of it. We’ve already seen how Meta makes a profit off FB and IG. I just hope this has a more consumer-friendly business model.
