Are you frustrated with running the same scripts again & again before resuming your work? Here is a simple solution to change that. We often develop complex applications which require a certain amount of basic setup to begin development on every occasion. For instance, I recently started working on a react-native project where I had to develop a mobile application with a backend on Express.js and MongoDB. I generally use iTerm 2 on my M1 MacBook as my go-to application for terminal usage. In every instance whenever I wished to resume my work on a daily basis, I had to perform a few routine tasks to set up my development environment as follows: #Terminal1

end tell Script Explanation Initially, the script commands the system to open the iTerm application and then to create a new tab with the default profile. Then it runs the commands to navigate to the backend project folder to run the project. Further, it creates an additional tab in the same window to run the $MONGODB_COMPASS & $VSCODE for which I have preset the variable as environment variables in the ~/.zshrc file as #Add these two lines below the PATH variable at the beginning

export VSCODE=/Applications/Visual\ Studio\ Code\ -\ Insiders.app By running these commands the script automatically opens both the applications and since I have previous quite/closed my VSCode session with my project folders open it would open them in the same state. Then finally, the script would create another tab in the same window and execute the commands to navigate into my frontend folder and build my android app which would in turn trigger to open up the android emulator device. 🌟🌟🌟 Now to spice things up a bit!! I added further functionality to run the above-developed script just using a keyboard shortcut from any application. This simplifies my workflow tremendously by reducing the time needed for me to set up the boring stuff through automation. : Note Below instructions are given as of 25th April 2022, MacOSX. It may/may not vary, please kindly do refer to other sources for slight modifications. Step — 1: Script Creation & Service Setup Open the Automator application from Spotlight and choose ‘Quick Action’ from the menu. Search for ‘AppleScript’ on the top search bar. You will find a ‘Run AppleScript’ option that will show up in the menu below. Double click on it. This will open up a short window on the main menu where you will need to set ‘Workflow Receives’ input as ‘no input’ to make sure that the script runs without any inputs. Then as ‘Any Application’, to allow any application to run the script. in Further in the ‘Run AppleScript’ menu, past the above mentioned Apple Script (Note: Modify the script as you desire it to perform) and click on the build icon. Which will open up another menu to choose the application to run. Please select ‘iTerm’ from the given list of applications. Then click on the ⏯ button to run the script and check if it runs as desired if not modify the script. Save the file with a proper name without spaces in the name from File->Save. Step — 2: Setting up Apple Keyboard Shortcut Go to System Preferences -> Keyboard -> Shortcuts. Select Services from the left sidebar. Find the service that you have just saved in the previous step from the list on the right-hand side. Then hover on the short cut and you will be displayed with an option to add a shortcut on the rightmost end. Now navigate to and select ‘Accessibility’ from the left sidebar. System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> Privacy Unlock the padlock and click on the ‘+’ sign to add applications. Add Automator. and Finder (you can find the finder application at ‘ Please navigate to this location) to be accessible by the system. /System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app’, Now you can close the System Preferences. Uderstanding the Basic Structure of a Website 

A 2019 research conducted by showed that 78% of people forgot their passwords and required a reset within the last 90 days. Passwords aren’t just difficult to manage, they are inconvenient, insecure, and expensive because passwords are just too easy to guess, hack or intercept and what’s more, the legacy of password reuse is leading to constant attack and account vulnerabilities. HYPR Hackers try to get your passwords through different means, this is especially bad for people who use the same or similar passcodes, so when one account gets hacked their other accounts become vulnerable. Most data breaches originate from stolen passwords as bad passwords are one of the easiest ways to compromise a system, it could take for a computer to go through the list of possible password combinations for someone who has a simple 8 character password. seconds Password managers Whenever there is a big hack, we are often advised by security experts to not only stop using the same passwords but to stop memorizing passwords altogether and make use of password managers; software applications designed to store and manage your online credentials and make your accounts more secure by freeing the user from having to generate and remember sufficiently complex passwords, thus allowing for single-purpose passwords that meet a much higher level of security. Two Factor Authentication Passwords have come a long way since its creation in the early 1960s with the inventions of new types of authentication like fingerprint scanners, face-scanning technology, and two-factor authentication. Two-factor authentication has to do with using two forms of authentication, it deals with the combination of two of the three forms of authentication, which are; What you know: your pin, username, password and even the answer to a security question What you have: your sim card, mobile number, bank card, key card an access token/badge Who you are: biometrics like facial recognition, fingerprint and iris scanning Two-factor authentication is far more secure than passwords alone because it takes into account two forms of authentication rather than one. A common form of two-factor authentication is withdrawing money from an ATM; using your pin code and your bank card. Other methods of two-factor authentication include using an authenticator app like Google authenticator or Microsoft authenticator, SMS Codes, and biometrics alongside your password for more secure verification, however, some forms of two-factor authentication are not as secure as others. The fight against passwords by big companies For years tech giants like Microsoft, Apple, and Google have been trying to get rid of their customers' reliance on passwords by introducing other extra-security methods, such as magic links, fingerprinting, or secret tokens delivered via email or text message. Virtual assistants like Siri, Google Assistant, and Alexa have very advanced voice recognition technology that identifies users using over a hundred characteristics of their voice, this has greatly aiding two-factor authentication and has made for passwordless authentication; a more secure method logging in that swaps the use of a traditional password with more secure factors. The FIDO Alliance is an association of more than 250 leading companies whose main goal is to reduce the industry's reliance on passwords and to standardize two-factor authentication. The FIDO (Fast Identity Online) Alliance The main difference between FIDO and other standards is where FIDO stores its data, unlike passwords which can be stolen from the servers they reside on or be bought from the dark web, FIDO does everything locally on the device. FIDO protects user privacy by using local-match biometrics, meaning matching users' biometrics on devices, therefore protecting them from being stolen by hackers. Microsoft Microsoft has been leading in the fight against passwords by providing its Windows devices with biometric technology like face scanning or fingerprint reading, most of . Microsoft’s employees can now log in to the corporate network using biometrics only In 2015, Microsoft introduced to customers with its devices running Windows 10, Windows Hello allowed users to log in to their devices without a password only using their face, fingerprint or iris, with Microsoft storing user biometrics on the device and not the cloud. Windows Hello . Microsoft also has a consumer authentication app 'Microsoft authenticator' which allows users to take advantage of two-factor authentication on any device. Users can log in to their Windows 10 devices using FIDO2 compatible devices such as hardware keys Apple Apple has been encouraging the use of biometric as a more secure means of authentication since it came out with on the iPhone 5s device in 2013, Apple also announced a more secure means of biometric; on the iPhone X in late 2017. Touch ID Face ID Back in 2016, Apple introduced , a feature for macOS that allows users to access their Mac computers using authentication from their apple watches, even going as far as to recommend apps only using password logins if biometrics fail in their Auto Unlock app development guidelines. Google Google has also required its employees to use physical security keys since 2017 and has seen a huge reduction in phishing, the company released a physical key; that allows users to take advantage of two-factor authentication on their devices. Titan Google announced in 2019 that phones running Android 7 and later would all come with a built-in security key using Bluetooth, iPhone and iPad users can also use their secondary Android devices as a security key whenever logging into their Google accounts on an iOS device. Conclusion The removal of passwords and the adoption of more secure means of authentication by the masses has been an extremely hard task to do because the average person is used to using risky methods of authentication and the technical difficulty of bringing new forms of authentication standards has only made it harder. Even with passwords being so hard to kill for tech giants, it's easy to see that a future without passwords and of improved security and usability is coming.

How Big Tech is Working Towards a Password-Free Future

Kubernetes Kubernetes is most awesome if you are using it as part of a Cloud provider, such as , , or . If on the other hand you are a bit more advantureous, and want to setup a cluster of your very own servers, things get a bit more complicated and involved. Google Amazon Microsoft OpenShift Not because is not awesome, it still is, however the documentation is not the clearest at times, or the most complete, also some things are less than obvious, and last but not least, latest Kube version has just been Kubernetes released about a day ago, meaning breakage. We will not get derailed by new features, which are also awesome (5k nodes, weeeee), we will be getting everything up and running. We’ll also be happy while doing it and we’ll stay happy (until the next version hits that is :)). We’ll be using a great, fresh out of alpha utility, , and following along a , we’ll skip the boring parts and we’ll spend some time doing other things. kubeadm very nice quick start The quick start we are following along is intended for Ubuntu 16.04+, CentOS 7 or HypriotOS v1.0.1+, I can tell you it also works on Debian Jessie. We’ll be traversing the Debian branch package wise, everything else is pretty much identical. So lets get our feet wet (do eveything as we are having fun after all, or ), also run this in or . root sudo screen tmux It all starts with , as it usually always does… Docker following with the things we really care about (k8s) All set, lets init our cluster, we’ll be using as our of choice (dont’t ask, or click the links :)), therefor you need the option, otherwise hairpulling. This has been fixed in 1.6.1 ( ), so after the cluster initializes feel free skip to the flannel configuration below… allegedly :) [apiclient] Waiting for at least one node to register and become ready and that’s just not very nice, turns out there is a kink in post alpha . Node is not considered ready, until networking is ready. In the previous versions you would set up networking after (or you know would finish…). kubeadm kubeadm While is still assaulting you, switch to another window.
