So, it’s that time of the year again…where people congratulate you on your work/biz anniversary on Linkedin. 9th year that is, on this Ever Bamboo project, hard to believe that next year will be the 10th.
I wrote this update on LinkedIn:
“Thank you for all the likes / congrats / msgs on my 9th yr anniversary at Ever Bamboo. It has been a crazy ride and I’m enjoying every moment of it. “Success is a lousy teacher…” as Bill Gates said, if that’s true…given the right context, then failures have been my best teacher (lots of it). Keep going and learning from new mistakes each day. =)”
My entrepreneur life has been “complicated”…filled with heavy clouds of personal identity and family-relationship issues. I brought these issues into this business and a marriage. Then I was working IN the business so hard instead of ON it. I was consumed by the business without prioritizing it properly in my life. My subconscious kept telling myself: “Business is tough but I can’t let it fail or else I’d be a failure.”
Life has a way of waking you up eventually, in my case…it’s a failed marriage. The ordeal really put things in perspective. Looking back, I totally underestimated what it takes to be successful to launch a new product and to build a brand. When you started something, and decided to finish it no matter what, when failure is not an option…is that the #entrepreneurLIFE? I don’t have the answer as I’m still searching in my entrepreneurial journey AND learning from what life is teaching me. One thing I know for sure is that I have a better chance of making it when I learn to embrace my past, be more self-aware in the presence, and be patient to what the future holds.
