With The Sims 5 release coming up, we boarded the theme with the gaming community in this slogging post. The Sims is a great way to get creative about life and was part of the childhood of many of us. In the post, we discussed our thoughts about our favorite features, versions, and what is coming next for this game.
This Slogging thread by Sara Pinto, Mónica Freitas, Limarc Ambalina and Jack Boreham occurred in slogging's official #gaming channel, and has been edited for readability.
Hey, burning question: what’s your favorite feature in The Sims universe?
My favorite feature has to be the ability to travel through the city, with or without the Sim character, that was introduced in The Sims 3. Having to see that blue screen until my Sim arrived at a place or having to just look at the house until the Sim arrived from work really sucked.
What was yours? Limarc Ambalina and Mónica Freitas
OMG, I haven't thought about Sims in a long time! 😂
I used to love how we could customize every trait of my Sims character in Sims 4. Even the walk. I think that's the main difference between Sims 3 and 4 it's how you can infuse the personality you want in your character. It was quite fun to watch it develop. On the other hand, I hated how, in Sims 3, I lost control over some events - in other versions, if I removed the pool stairs, my characters would be stuck (and die), but in the Sims 3, it would just jump out of the pool. I couldn't play God anymore 😅
Have you ever got into Sims, Jack Boreham?
Sara Pinto, what was your favourite Sims version?
Mónica Freitas, I have to choose The Sims 3, definitely! From the construction options to the customization of the Sims and all the graphics of the game, I think it is the best version. That's why I never got used to The Sims 4, the graphics didn't do it justice, it felt less realistic.
Glad you mentioned that stair feature, I didn't care for it either - I just learned to put walls around the pool to trap the Sims 😂
I also haven't thought about the sims in a long time. And I'm sorry to be so ...immature with my answer but I thought it was absolutely hilarious that you could "woohoo" yourself to death :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing:
My favorite sims version was actually sims on mobile I forget the name but it was based on careers
I think it was called the sims ambitions
I've never been able to. The only one I've ever played is My Sims Pets on the Gameboy, but for me, real-life sims are not my thing. I enjoy watching playthroughs of sims on, say, youtube, but I wouldn't say I like playing them. Mónica Freitas, can you try and sell me on the Sims?
Jack Boreham, if you like to "play god" in a universe where you're completely responsible for how your character is, how it lives and dies, its future...this is a game for you. Besides, it's a great way to map your own way around life 😂 Sara Pinto help me sell it out
Limarc Ambalina, it's probably a bit "problematic," but there were so many ways you could kill your own character. It was ridiculous! You got bored of that life, and you could turn it into a killing spree. I didn't even know there was a mobile version. I've got to check that one out.
Sara Pinto. oh, that's a way around it, ahaha. Are you excited for Sims 5? What do you think will be the main changes in the game? Or which ones would you'd like to see?
Limarc Ambalina, I’m glad you mention that! One of the things I enjoy the most about The Sims is the funny and bizarre deaths that exist in the whole Sims universe. You can’t even get mad about your Sim being dead since most of the times it is in the most hilarious ways 😂
Limarc Ambalina, I also enjoyed that version, it lets you explore some different types of careers that were more interactive. It’s this type of things that make The Sims a great game! What was your favorite career to pursue?
Jack Boreham, I think the best way to get someone into The Sims is to try a challenge. There are plenty, from the most simple ones, like playing with a pre-made Sim, to the hardcore ones, like having a teenage runaway with all sorts of craziness, that will get you hooked and you get to experience all the fun features of the game. But I also enjoy watching gameplays on YouTube or even the building process of the houses, I think it is so satisfying! What do you enjoy the most in the playthroughs?
Mónica Freitas, I’m actually not excited 😂 I always take a long time to get used to the latest version of the game. Now I love The Sims 3, but before I couldn’t stand it, I would only play the previous version hahah. Since I’m not used to The Sims 4 just yet, I don’t think I will enjoy the next one as much, but I would love to see some more realistic graphics, even though I think they will invest more in the Sims personality.
Sara Pinto ahaha I get it! Hopefully, Sims 5 will bring everything good from the other versions together.
Sara Pinto, I agree. Although I liked playing mainly for the house building and relationships aspect, if I remember correctly I liked playing as the firemen
