People think of AI and they start thinking of Skynet. Fear mongering articles like these don’t help either. Really Firstpost, way to go . Tsk Tsk.
First, any experiment that does not meet its desired results has to be shut down. May be the data used for training needs more pre-processing, more features need to be added, model needs to readjusted etc etc. There can be hundreds of reason why the experiment failed and had to be shut down.
Second, I want to question the author how does he think computers communicate anyways. English words spoken by computers are actually arrays of 0s and 1s. Computers have an efficient way of abstracting the complexity and nuances of our language. Google Translate works by projecting spoken language onto a higher dimensional geometrical space which is repurposed to give you translation into any language of your choice.
Finally the author uses selective quotes from stalwarts like Musk and Hawking, that are completely unrelated to the failed AI experiment at FB. This I think is done to hide the fact that the author does not know shit from shinola about AI and ML. I also think by driving paranoia and fear the author wanted to generate more web clicks.
This article definitely does not deserve huge number of the eye balls and does not definitely deserve to be a trending news in my LinkedIn feed. Stay away from yellow journalism, people.
