What must exist on the blockchain to represent fungibility, non-fungibility, composability and ownership trustlessly in decentralized networks? If provability of an account owning a balance or a few unique integers is all we need, why do we care if these “tokens” conform to any standard? Additionally, if tokens have proxies mapping to standard interfaces, it matters less what’s happening behind the scenes on the blockchain.
