Batman: Arkham Knight was a fitting end to Rocksteady’s Caped Crusader video game series. A ton of characters and villains returned for the big send-off, storylines were wrapped up, and we saw how the story (probably) ended for the Batman.
Like the other Batman Arkham games, Arkham Knight has the main story, but it also has side missions. These side missions pop up throughout the city, have their own storylines, and their own villains.
While a few of them can be considered okay, a lot of them are great. This makes it hard to pick out the best side missions, but it’s something that needs to be done. So, here are the 5 best Batman: Arkham Knight side missions.
The only reason this isn’t higher on the list is because it is incredibly short. If it was any longer, it could be a serious contender for the best side mission in the game. The mission sees Batman try to revert Man-Bat back into Dr. Kirk Langstorm after a terrible lab experiment transformed the doctor into the terrifying creature.
To do that, Batman will need to develop a serum. As players progress through the mission, they will learn more about Dr. Langstorm and his background. The Creature of the Night may be short, but it packs a punch that players still feel even after all of these years.
Batman has many iconic villains, including ol’ reliable, Oswald Cobblepot; otherwise known as The Penguin. In the Gunrunner mission, Batman will team up with Nightwing to take out Penguin’s gun-running operation. The villain has hideouts all over the city, so Batman has to follow low-level goons until they lead him to the weapons.
The reason this mission is so great is because of the inclusion of Nightwing. Oracle and Robin are there throughout the main storyline, but Gunrunner is one of the few times we see Nightwing in the game. Not only do we get to see him, but we get to play as both him and Batman; and the best part of this mission is seeing these two characters play off each other.
The Mad Hatter had a great side mission in Batman: Arkham City, and he comes back with another equally great mission in the sequel. A DLC side mission, it sees the police officers of Gotham fall into the hands of The Mad Hatter. The villain is kidnapping them, and it’s up to the Caped Crusader to save them.
It’s not an easy task because there are explosive obstacles Batman will have to dodge. Locating and saving the officers is fun, but there’s a part later in the mission that takes it to a whole other level. The Mad Hatter may not be one of the most popular Batman villains, but he can take solace in the fact (or opinion) that he has one of the best Batman: Arkham Knight side missions.
Without taking into account the DLC missions, this is the best mission in the game. Batman comes across a dead body in Gotham, and he realizes there will be more to come. So, he needs to find the person responsible and stop them. It’s one thing to find these bodies in the huge city, but then Batman also has to figure out who these victims are as well.
After finding all the victims, Batman has enough information to figure out who the killer is and where they’re hiding. It turns out it’s Professor Pyg! This interesting villain is somewhat new, and seeing him get the spotlight in an amazing storyline was a treat to see; The Perfect Crime is a clear highlight of the Batman: Arkham Knight game.
As previously stated, this game wrapped up a lot of storylines; one of them being Mr. Freeze’s. The character had appeared in previous games, and it was fantastic to finally see how his story concluded. He had been trying to heal his wife, Nora, who was deathly ill; to buy more time, he cryogenically froze her.
All this time he had been doing everything to reunite with her, and this mission showed whether he succeeded or not. There are plenty of spoilers throughout this article, but this mission shouldn’t have any. In From the Cold deserves to be experienced rather than read.
All of the DLC missions are great, but this one alone is worth the price, and it is at the top of the list of the best Batman: Arkham Knight side missions.
