A common practice in secular meditation, RAIN is an acronym for: Recognizing the emotions and investigating them. The first step is to explore the unpleasantness of these emotions, rather than wishing them away. The second step involves exploring the physical sensations in our body. The third step involves non-identification with our emotions, or Nurture the emotions, depending on the version of RAIN. The fourth step involves looking at the emotions in the face of the actuality of our emotions.
