DC has been having a rough time these past few years. One of their movies was canceled mid-production, one of their lead stars was routinely in trouble with the police, and they announced that actor Henry Cavill won’t return for the next Superman movie.

But there’s also been some positive announcements such as the fact that James Gunn and Peter Safran will now be overseeing DC studios. And on top of that, 4 DC movies are slated to release this year.

While the DC Universe (DCU) is usually hit-or-miss, these movies seem like they could be fun and entertaining. Here are all of the DC movies coming out in 2023.

DC Movies Coming Out in 2023

  1. Shazam!: Fury of the Gods
  2. The Flash
  3. Blue Beetle
  4. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom

1. Shazam!: Fury of the Gods (03-17-23)

The first Shazam movie was a fun movie that still managed to tug at the heartstrings. Billy Batson had just recently moved to another foster home when he gains magical powers. Imbued by these new gifts, Batson becomes the superhero Shazam.

Although he becomes bigger and stronger, he still has the mind of a teenager, so he’s routinely goofing off.

Spoiler alert in the next paragraph:

At the end of the film, Billy shares his powers with his siblings. In this new film, Shazam!: Fury of the Gods, it looks like the Shazam family is thrown into another adventure.

From the trailer, it looks like Shazam is trying to be the team leader while also dealing with the Daughters of Atlas.

2. The Flash (06-16-23)

This movie has had a lot of discourse surrounding it, and none of it has been for good reasons. The actor playing the titular character, Ezra Miller, has been mired in allegations and criminal charges. And that’s not even mentioning all the things going on with the movie itself.

The Flash was first announced way back in 2014. Not to get into everything, but a lot’s happened worldwide in these past 9 years, and the one thing that remained constant is the fact that The Flash is still yet to be released.

Even after all this time, The Flash movie is still fluctuating. It was reported by The Hollywood Reporter that Henry Cavill’s Superman and Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman had cameos in the movie, which have now been cut. And, as recently as October, the movie was doing some reshooting.

Who knows what this movie will be like when it comes out, but it will definitely be a spectacle.

3. Blue Beetle (08-18-23)

Not much is known about this movie, but Blue Beetle has been a fan favorite for years, so it’s nice to finally see the character on the big screen. He’s been featured in animated shows such as Young Justice and Batman: The Brave and the Bold, but now, he’s starring in a full-fledged live-action movie.

Jaime Reyes is a normal teenager whose body becomes infused with an alien scarab. When activated, the scarab covers Reyes’ body in armor that not only protects him but gives him multiple weapons as well.

Out of all the DC movies coming out in 2023, Blue Beetle is the one we know the least about, but it’s also the one that has all the potential in the world to be a sleeper hit.

4. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (12-25-23)

If you told people 10 years ago that an Aquaman movie was going to make a billion dollars, they would’ve said to you, “Who are you, and why are you talking to me?”

But it’s true. So naturally, a sequel was immediately in development. Aquaman is back in action in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The movie is still some months away, so the studio is still keeping its plot under wraps.

In the first film, Aquaman fights to become King of Atlantis. In this next one, the character could learn how heavy the crown really is.

Whether any of these movies will have sequels in this new DC Universe remains to be seen, but that’s a topic for another time. Right now, it’s just nice to see these characters back in action.
