Too Long; Didn't Read

HackerNoon has decided to convert all winner’s trophies into unique NFTs. NFT stands for non-fungible tokens - a digital proof of ownership over physical or digital good(s) Hackernoon.com is helping our audience get acquainted with emerging technologies faster. You can program an NFT to pass a percentage of the proceeds from every sale to the artist, fractionalize the ownership to multiple entities, or even add digital attributes (like game skins) to make it truly unique.

The third ever annual Noonies have concluded! For 3 months, netizens have cast over 105k votes for 4,961 nominees across 586 awards from 6 different categories!

**Now that all winners have been announced (congrats!), we would like to share more about the prizes that they all win, and a bit more about HackerNoon’s stance on web3, privacy and the internet! This series is sponsored by our partners Get.Tech and Avast.

NFTs have quickly emerged as a lot of things in 2021-22. From tools of depicting art ownership and cutting out the middleman to despicable get-rich-quick schemes, NFTs have found acceptance in all spheres of life.

HackerNoon, as the tip of the spear for helping our audience get acquainted with emerging technologies faster, has decided to convert all winner’s trophies into unique NFTs.

What are NFTs?

NFT stands for Non Fungible Tokens - a digital proof of ownership over physical or digital good(s). This, among other things, helps quickly verify the chain of ownership of the underlying good(s).

For example, if the Mona Lisa were to be an NFT, you would be able to see who owned it, from Leonardo da Vinci to the current owners.

As a digital representation, NFTs enable us to program rights, royalties, and remuneration into the NFT itself.

So, you can program an NFT to pass a percentage of the proceeds from every sale to the artist, fractionalize the ownership to multiple entities, or even add digital attributes (like game skins) to make it truly unique.

This is why artists worldwide are turning to NFTs for breaking the barriers between themselves and their audience. With this disintermediation, artists can be protected against the predatory practice of art houses profiteering off of artists' work.

At HackerNoon, we believe web3 is the future of the Internet, a post-Facebook world, with privacy, censorship-resistance, and inalienable rights baked into the architecture.

Hence, we're doing our bit to acclimatize our audience to NFTsat no cost to you!

The following section is pertained to Noonies winners only :)

To claim your NFT as a Noonie winner, you simply need to do the following:

  1. Create a Metamask wallet (your digital wallet to hold your NFT), you can download the Google Chrome extension, or use the mobile app!

  2. Visit chainlist.org, search for “polygon” and then click “add to metamask” to join our network!

  3. If you already have a HackerNoon account, you’re awesome - but you can also navigate to your profile page and connect your wallet!

If you don’t have an account with us, you can sign up directly with your MetaMask wallet, and Bang! That’s it!

We'll soon process and transfer your NFT to your metamask address.

You'll now be able to download it, share it, or set it as your profile picture (pfp if you're one of the cool kids)

Hopefully, that'll get you started on your journey towards becoming adept at using words such as sniping, floor-sweeping, and #apesfollowapes. There are a ton of HackerNoon stories on NFTs, written by those well versed. Click this #NFT link to get a list of all stories or start from our favorites:
