I’ve been on a quest to find historical and uprising projects to include as use cases in my new book, the NFT Encyclopedia. I’ve discovered that one of the most significant transformations Web3 is heralding is the emergence of a more inclusive ownership economy. According to , “ .” NASDAQ An ownership economy is any economic system where those who participate also hold an ownership or financial stake. If you’ve been given employee stock options, then you’ve been a member of an ownership economy. The principle behind employee stock option plans is that a long-term financial stake aligns between the enterprise and its workers and that alignment is critical to the long-term success of the enterprise Propelled by the advent of cryptocurrency and currently DAOs, this cooperative model can access a broader, global talent base while creating value beneficial to a wider pool of individuals exceeding past expectations. With more excellent value created and further talent being leveraged in meaningful ways comes the promise of more equitable modes of economic organization. An ownership economy is not constantly an actual distribution of tokens, stock options, or equity, nor does the application or service have to be built totally on a blockchain. Instead, ownership may personify in the structure of economic rewards, governance, or various forms of recent foundations of enjoyable user experiences. Social Capital, With cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum, members of communities are empowered to share about the project while receiving remuneration in the native asset to help secure the network. As the smart contract system implemented on Ethereum proved to result in numerous novel uses, one of the most transformative implementations has been DAOs. DAOs, though seen as a buzzword, are so for a reason, as they are communally governed organizations. Without a single human arbiter to execute goals, DAOs rely on transparency as embodied in smart contracts. We live in an uncertain period where DAOs are necessary to cultivate new levels of efficiency and democratization in forward-thinking organizations. With the world-altering transition to Web3, we see the movement towards an ownership economy existing in nascent stages, though the opportunities excite the masses, as they are endless.
