This article presents a real-world case study of a near–real-time computer vision pipeline designed to detect helmet collisions, associate helmets with individual players using tracking data, and operationalize trustworthiness through measurable evaluation and governance-aligned reporting. The key insight: In safety-critical AI, novelty is not only architectural. Reliability engineering, rigorous evaluation, stress testing, and transparent limitations matter just as much as model accuracy.
