Twitter even though originally categorised as a Social Media app for influential people can also work as a great App for A Tech Nerd.

There are a few hacks that allow me to use Twitter as a News App, Here’s how I use it as my primary source of DL News.

Learning Cycle

Twitter has learning cycles to it.

No matter how you start off, you will often end up reorganising your account, your bio and the community you follow.

First you learn the organisation of Tweets, next comes how you engage with the people you follow.

Follow-Unfollow

Over time you find the people whose Papers/work/Blogs are really amazing. You hit follow.

  • I’d start with following the People they follow.
  • In the Next Iteration, you’d want to check the Person’s bio before hitting follow.
  • If many of the people you follow-follow them, chances are they are related to the field.

If you follow the right people on Twitter, you should be up to date on All the buzz.

Another Caveat: Personally, I don’t follow News Handles. If the news is good enough, the Tweet automatically surface up because all of my connections (That hit like) cause it to be ranked higher in my feeds.

Lists

Lists are one of the highly underrated features on Twitter.

Often while Following someone, I’d add Them to a List.

You can checkout my Lists:

Another neat idea is-Say if you want your feed to be primarily Computer Vision and you’re also interested in SDCs.

You could add Handles to a list instead of following them. Simply check the list when you want to read about the things listed. Your feed will be exclusively around the people you follow.

Trends

We often neglect the Trends tab on the Left of Twitter. Personally, I change this is to the Silicon Valley to stay updated on any instant Hype in the zone.

If a major news/buzz is happening-you’d be up to date.

Re-iterate

Finally, you should often reflect upon your feed.

Do you see too many memes?

Are you binge reading memes or news tweets?

Is it time to unfollow the bots that you might have followed?

Re-Organise lists?
