Those of us in the business of selling secondhand mobile phones have been closely following the new cell phone trends and developments in 2020. However, one piece of news that has gotten a bit buried amid it all is the T-Mobile/Sprint merger. T-Mobile successfully acquired Sprint on April 1. As you may have noticed, it’s been somewhat of a quiet summer as far as the merger goes—but that’s about to change. Quick Takes: Where Things Stand with the Merger Today T-Mobile officially folded the Sprint brand under its flagship banner on August 2. We may be seeing some ripples finally take form in the industry once some key “separation dates” get here. The big, obvious development impacting both resellers and customers is that we’re down to just three major cell carriers in the United States (Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile). What should we expect down the pipeline as a merger that’s mostly been on paper up until now takes shape in real life? Let's explore some key speculation points related to the T-Mobile/Sprint merger with a focus on the impact the newly formed conglomerate could have on secondhand mobile phones. There are some interesting things to look at, specifically in terms of pre-2020 5G devices being traded in prematurely in some markets. Why Are T-Mobile and Sprint Merging? While there are many peripheral advantages to merging for both carriers, resellers should make no mistake about the fact that there is one main objective behind the T-Mobile/Sprint merger: This conglomerate will be highly focused on bringing 5G to more places. In fact, the partnership’s ability to dominate in the 5G market hinges specifically on a strategy of bringing 5G to rural markets faster than anyone else can. T-Mobile needed Sprint under its tent due to Sprint’s well-known, long-standing relationships with the nation’s rural carriers. We’re potentially looking at a future where T-Mobile will be pushing for every customer to be a 5G customer. An expanded 5G network across rural parts of the country means that more cell customers may be eager to trade in existing devices for 5G devices. This could increase the supply of newer, non-5G devices on the resale market as T-Mobile advances its plans. Popular Opinion: It Will Be a While Before Customers Feel the Merger Deeply It looks like T-Mobile is taking every measure necessary to make sure current Sprint customers can enjoy a changeover that’s as non-abrupt as possible. For now, both Sprint and T-Mobile customers can keep doing exactly what they’re doing, including visiting the same brick-and-mortar stores that have served them as their cellphone homebase thus far. In addition, all online account management for Sprint customers will be exactly the same for the time being. The long-term goal is to transition all Sprint customers over to the T-Mobile network before creating a combined, supercharged network. T-Mobile has also promised to preserve pricing for three years. While customers will see branding updates across their accounts in the upcoming months, they won’t see any bill increases or changes until 2023. In addition to folding millions of Sprint customers into its brand, T-Mobile is also aggressively trying to court “switchers” from the nation’s two major carriers using an aggressive trade-in offer. T-Mobile will pay off the remaining device payments or service contracts for all customers who make the switch from Verizon or AT&T. The carrier will be handing out up to $650 per line via trade-in credits and virtual prepaid cards whenever a customer trades in an existing phone for a new one. This will have an obvious impact on the trade-in market if customers bite. This is Where It Gets Interesting for the Resale Market One of the more complicated aspects of the merger of T-Mobile and Sprint is that they use different technologies to power their 2G networks. While T-Mobile uses GSM, Sprint uses CDMA. As you may know, the big difference is that CDMA phones generally don’t use SIM cards like GSM phones do unless they’re LTE-enabled devices. The speculation now is that T-Mobile will choose GSM as it makes the pivot to unify the entire conglomerate to a single form of technology. This means that current Sprint customers going along for the ride with T-Mobile will find themselves with devices that are not compatible with their networks in the not-so-distant future. As a result, these customers will need to upgrade to new devices to be able to get network coverage. Yes, T-Mobile is making a big show of saying that nothing is changing for Sprint customers; however, it seems inevitable that the merger will cause a large portion of current Sprint customers to outgrow their devices prematurely. We’ll also see something of a device limbo for millions of existing Sprint customers with 5G-compatible devices from now until the three-year merger process is completed in 2023. We expect that any Sprint 5G phone that came out before the Galaxy S20 will be rendered outdated because Sprint 5G phones released in 2019 to enable access to T-Mobile’s 5G network. The affected devices include the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G, Samsung Galaxy S10 5G, and the LG V50 ThinQ 5G. Those devices will still be capable of tapping into Sprint’s 4G network, but only where it’s still available. will not be getting updates T-Mobile has tried to smooth the rough patch by offering discounted 18-month leases on Galaxy S20 5G phones to replace the soon-to-be outdated devices. This is interesting for resellers because even fairly new 5G phones from before the February 2020 release date of the S20 may be appearing in the resale market much earlier than would be expected without the Sprint/T-Mobile merger. We can also look ahead to potentially seeing post-lease S20 5G phones hitting the market 18 months from now (potentially February 2022). Speculating on How the Merged Companies Will Handle Resale of Used Devices T-Mobile isn’t giving any behind-the-scenes looks at how it’s handling the resale of traded Sprint devices. That means we don’t yet know if they will continue to sell their used devices separately or consolidate used phone supply. However, it’s pretty clear that the two brands will have a consolidated used phone supply by at least the 2023 deadline for the merger being fully complete. The one thing that does seem certain is that whatever channel T-Mobile decides to use to deposit Sprint devices that are will see more CDMA and pre-2020 5G devices. traded in Final Takeaways on the T-Mobile/Sprint Merger The T-Mobile/Sprint merger will affect 5G device traffic for resellers. Existing Sprint customers who would have held onto their devices may create an influx of pre-2020 devices much sooner than expected. Why does 5G excite me?!? As a technologist (though I guess everyone on Hackernoon is), I have been on the never-ending hunt to speed up all critical things in my life. The internet is certainly one of those things. The theoretical maximum speed of 5G is 100x faster than current 4G technology. That is faster than a cable internet connection. It's more akin to having a fiber connection installed, but it's wireless! Doesn't that just blow your mind? I'm not just being dramatic. For the last couple of years, I have devoted my entire life to working on which speeds up AI training. For example, training a 1M image dataset typically takes 2-3 weeks using conventional methods. T-Mobile’s Accelerator and Innovation Lab is Paving the Way for 5G Adoption Across the US

CONCLUSIONS In this paper, we developed a MILP model to optimize the pricing scheme used by ISPs to charge CPs for delivering their video content under the repeal of net neutrality where ISPs can treat data intensive traffic less favorably. A techno-economic Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) model is developed to maximize the ISP profit by optimizing the ISP pricing scheme to charge different classes of service differently subject to PED. We considered three classes of service that represent different data rate requirements of video content. The analysis addressed three CP delivery scenarios; cloud-based delivery, cloud-fog based delivery and fog-based delivery. The results show that the discriminatory pricing scheme can increase the ISPs profit by a factor of 8. The results also show that by influencing the way end-users consume data-intensive content, the core network traffic and consequently power consumption are reduced by up to 49% and 55%, respectively, compared to the net neutrality scenario. Continuing last year's trend of increased regulation frameworks, more regulations have been developed and published, depicting 2024 as another fruitful year in cyber and privacy guidance, with some notable themes and trends already taking shape:. 1. Regulatory Onslaught: AI and ESG Take Center Stage To say that the cyber and vendor security regulatory landscape is expanding is a mere understatement. For one, the is set to control and reduce AI-associated risks within the European region, underscoring a giant leap as it becomes the world’s first comprehensive AI law. EU AI Act Secondly, has increased public awareness of the frameworks due to increasing customers' support for environmental conservation, human rights, and ethical business operations. In the next few years, companies are more likely to prioritize building relationships with suppliers who align with their internal values. However, there is still no industry-wide standard for evaluating ESG performance, despite the greater attention being paid to ESG considerations. Today, the connection between cybersecurity and ESG is becoming more apparent, and board members now recognize that sustainable business practices require a comprehensive strategy. Boards must incorporate social responsibility, environmental impact, and transparency in governance into their cybersecurity plans as demand on corporations to do so grows. This all-encompassing strategy recognizes the wider influence of cybersecurity on the standing, reliability, and long-term viability of the company. Boards now have to consider the ramifications of this paradigm change for the organization's social effect, ethical standing, and compliance with changing regulatory frameworks, in addition to the technical nuances of cybersecurity. You can say that they aim to present a whole new way for humans to communicate and interact with the world intricately and at all levels without the need for so many screens. Is that possible? Many have termed it "a potential smartphone killer". But if you ask me, I see it nowhere being near the truth. Let's see for ourselves what the prospects of AI Pin are. What is AI Pin? AI Pin is the brainchild of two very talented Apple ex-employees, Imran Chaudhri (hardware designer) and his wife, Bethany Bongiorno (software engineer) aimed at liberating humanity from smartphone addiction. The AI Pin is a small, lightweight, and screenless wearable device that combines AI technology, sensors, and a projector and is designed to provide users with a variety of functionalities that are both natural and intuitive when the device is interacted with. The AI Pin has the functions of a smartphone but as opposed to smartphones, it has no home screen or digital interface that can be looked at. It is like a tech pixie – a tiny powerhouse that marries artificial intelligence with the unassuming charm of a pin and strips away all the interface cruft from the fabric of your daily life. Thoughts are flying – without a screen, how do you operate the AI Pin? A touch on the device powers it on and it switches on at the sound of your voice or your hand gestures. You can talk and say what you want to know or do, and the device will act in response to your demands automatically. AI has grown more efficiently over the years, undergoing a metamorphosis from simple text commands to chatbots, to oral interactions. We've seen AI personas like Apple's Siri, Amazon's Alexa, Google Assistant, and Microsoft's Bing, play personal assistant roles to users. Ending an era of apps, Humane's operating system, the cosmOS, runs a cloud-based AI-powered inventory called 'AI Bus" that understands what you need, picks the right response/data, and calls up the AIs and tools you need at the moment, so you no longer have to search for, download, or manage apps. Its unique features include: A Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset (Snapdragon processor with a dedicated Qualcomm AI engine), is crucial for AI technology because it is super fast and ensures optimum performance. An in-built network connectivity built right into Humane's network and connected by T Mobile. Every owner of the pin gets a special phone number. A wireless connectivity that enables users to integrate, control, and interact with various smart devices, and access online services. An ultra-wide RGB camera that scans objects and images immediately for necessary data and takes gorgeous pictures and video just by a double tap on the device. Depth and motion sensors are super smart and fast in tracking and recording your surroundings or detecting your hand gestures and interpreting them. A trust light indicator built directly into the Atkins hardware via a dedicated privacy chip and it indicates when the input optical or audio sensors are active, which ensures full transparency and data security. A laser ink projector that displays a visual interface of the AI Pin on the palm of your hand. A beacon light that notifies you when there is something new for you, like messages, services, etc. A special speaker that creates a 'personic' sphere bubble of sound that can be reduced or increased. A Review of the AI Pin The wearable device sounds like such a thrill device, that anyone would rush to get one to try it out. I am very much intrigued myself. But is this acclaimed "do everything" AI gizmo truly capable of living up to its expectations? Let’s start by analyzing the design and features in respect to other devices. AI pin is a small thin, sleek, and lightweight hardware with a smooth glass surface, easily pinned to your lapel; the device is very comfortable for your daily activities and almost forgettable. Much more convenient to use than your smartphone in your hands, your wristwatch strapped to your hands, your AirPods stuck in your ears, or the Ray-Ban Glasses on your face. If this wearable device can replace the mentioned devices especially smartphones, then it is an easy sell; but this is improbable as these devices have uniquely positioned themselves in the lives of their users, such that, it  will take the AI pins some more years to play catch up in order to convince users that it is a better alternative. totally But Eras do come to an end, don’t they?? The laser ink display that projects some details like battery life, temperature, music, location, time (and so much more we are yet to find out) on the palms, which can be operated with simple hand and finger gestures, is quite an impressive feature for a wearable device with no screen. The perpetual power system with 2 extra hot swapping batteries (or battery boosters) for longer battery life that could last weeks without charge, may just be able to score some extra points if I do not have to swap the boosters during my day's routine. But sadly, it seems not as Chaudry, in the promotional video, opined: "...and this is how we achieve all-day battery life". Can someone tell me why exactly a device so small would exhaust 3 batteries in approximately 24 hours? That certainly does not give a lot of confidence in the device and has to be improved on. The privacy feature dares to be exceptional; it has no 'wake words' that ensure that the AI is not always listening or recording everything about your life (to cause an AI apocalypse/takeover in the future. lol). It only comes on and is active at its user engagement or voice. In addition, the prominent Trust Light indicates that the sensors are active and could be recording so you can keep whatever you have to keep private. If this is compromised, the pin shuts down automatically and needs Humane's professional service to get it functioning again. The bad side, you cannot contact Humane's professional services until you visit Humane's Care Centre, which is also the center you need to use to manage the AI Pin. To get in touch with the center, you have to resort to your smartphone or PC. (Haha! Play catch up, buddies! You can't completely get rid of your smartphones.) Where AI is concerned, there is still a tough call as to whether the technology is perfectly intelligent and wholly accurate. Humane's debut of the AI Pin served as a low blow to its 5 years of development as it features inaccuracies due to its AI slip-ups or fabrications. First, our hazy AI tells Chaudry that the best view for the next solar eclipse would be in Australia when in all common sense, the best view for the eclipse, which is the 'Great American Eclipse' would be in no other place than America. A huge slip-up, right? Next, after Chaudry asked how many grams of proteins the handful of almonds he held was, AI replied 15 grams. WRONG! According to dieticians, you have to engulf at least 60 almond nuts to get 15 grams of protein. If we have to depend solely on this AI when using the AI Pin, how sure can we be about the information it provides us? Confidence drops to 50%. This brings me to the price. $699? And a $24 monthly TMobile subscription to have access to unlimited calling, texting, and data connectivity to OpenAI's AI models and Microsoft? May not be outrageous for some technologies, but consider a small wearable device pinned to your lapel with no screen, I call that horrendous! Okay, it would be a fair price if it could auspiciously take the place of smartphones in our day-to-day lives by at least 70% and didn't have so many faults. This is its first entry into the market, which means there should be a lot of feedback and reviews that would lead to a couple of updates and upgrades for future models. Buying a debut device at such a price could only be out of curiosity. Can the AI Pin survive the test of time? Wearable devices like , a life-logging device designed to also sit on the user's lapel and take pictures at 30-second intervals, held on for 4 years until it dissolved. However, it would be demeaning to compare the AI Pin to the discontinued tech as it has more use cases and holds more promise. Narrative Clip The Humane couple and ex-Apple geniuses are confident in the future of the Pin. Bongiorno calls it the "world’s first contextual computer" and believes it will have a mass appeal - A computer Beyond Touch…. Beyond Screens Amidst all the criticisms, I must acknowledge that this is a first-of-its-kind gizmo – a screenless, seamless, and sensing AI-powered voice-controlled gadget that does not require connectivity to another smart device to operate. The advent of smartphone technology reduced our dependency on desktop and laptop computers. Likewise, the arrival of the AI Pin technology can greatly reduce our screen time by cutting down our  clinginess to smartphones. No one can tell the future; it is too early to predict as the technology is in its premature state. But just as the first iPhone was released in 2007 and continued to pass through different phases of development to become more sophisticated, the AI Pin is also very capable of this kind of development and growth, especially with the advancement of AI technologies. Are the chances of bigger corporations engulfing Humane and its AI Pin? I can't say for sure. But unapologetically, Humane has the backing and is heavily funded to a ton of  $200 million by A-list companies pushing technology around the globe. Some of these companies include OpenAI, Microsoft, Qualcomm Technologies, TIDAL, T-Mobile, Salesforce, and others. Competitors are sniffing at this technology and taking wild guesses regarding its future – Google, Meta, etc. However, Humane's greatest competitor could be…(your guess is as good as mine), Apple Inc. Apple's fascination with AI makes them a force to reckon with. They are known to have a radical approach that dominates the market and keeps them at the top as a tech giant.  They also play a smart game of acquisitions or competitions. If they can't acquire, they release a strong contender into the market. A pin that has the potential to overshadow the smartphone in our daily lives is not a novel idea that Apple can pass by and ignore. To stay on top of the game, they could watch the pun's prospects in the market and be whipping a checkbook in no time or releasing a more sophisticated version in few years down the line. You can't be too surprised if you hear iPin after a successful acquisition or iClip as a daring competition. (Note: This is solely a prediction from a personal point of view) In all cases, it is not for us to know. Humane could become an unprecedented force leading the technology of AI voice-controlled wearable gadgets and reshaping the way we interact with AI and technology. (P.S: Once Humane becomes a fully registered and public company and releases an upgrade of the AI Pin, I'll be taking up some shares. There is good potential here.) Final Words The world is buzzing with new and newer technologies every day. However, the AI Pin is a pacesetter that proves that it is not another neoteric attempt to make wearable tech a trend but a revolutionary voice-controlled device that will liberate users from the addiction to screens even in a tech-infused world.

A SIM Swap is a socially engineered attack where a hacker gains access to a victim’s phone number by tricking a mobile carrier into transferring the victim’s number to a SIM card controlled by the hacker. Software development has improved 100x since the internet was invented, but how people report bugs has not changed since the 1990s. Have you ever experienced this? An engineer picks up a ticket, and after some investigation, they determine that it works fine on their end, and they don't have sufficient information to reproduce the bug. They add a comment to the ticket, switch over to a different task, and wait for the bug reporter to supply them with more information. This cycle repeats several times, and each time there's new info in the ticket, the engineer has to remember where they left off and try to pick up the thread. Context switches like this are painful for engineers, and the typical bug-reporting process seems to be the poster child for this sort of hassle. The real life of a bug Imagine a fellow employee reports a login issue in the engineering Slack channel, and a couple of engineers drop everything to investigate. Despite their best efforts, they can't replicate the issue. They request more information such as the type of browser and device. Then they instruct the employee to try various troubleshooting steps like clearing the cache and refreshing the page. The async chats back and forth often consume an hour or more. Eventually, the engineering team has to schedule a debugging call with the employee to try to identify the issue on their computer. During the call, the employee shares their screen, and the engineers guide them on how to open the console and network tabs in dev tools to discern what's happening. Ultimately, the engineers see that there's a 401 error in the network tab, that says, "incorrect password." In essence, the problem wasn't that the login was broken, it was that the front end failed to bubble up the "incorrect password" error message and display it to the user. A simple front-end error that should have taken five minutes to identify and solve cost a couple of engineers their afternoon. Time for change Today's bug-reporting process remains archaic. Since the 1990s, the world has invented instant messaging like Slack, and video-calling like Zoom, and adopted remote work globally. Bug communication has gone digital. Bug tracking has moved from written files to Jira tickets. And yet, bug reporting is still filled with the pesky back-and-forth that wastes engineering time. We’ve all experienced the frustration of dealing with unclear bug reports that lack the necessary context to solve the issue. That's why a year ago, a few of us started imagining a better way. What if we could build a new tool that modernizes bug reporting and could solve the problem of unclear bug reports, reduce the need for back-and-forth communication, and save engineers' time and energy? And this is according to research from 2020. So, it’s probably even more today. It would be cool if someone did research on how many API-as-a-service companies got founded in the last decade. I’m betting that number is increasing exponentially. 83% of the internet is API! With the of API-as-a-service companies, API-driven platforms and applications, it is essential for organizations to have a simple-to-use, centralized platform/tool in place to monitor and manage these services. rise API-centric and General Monitoring Tools I’ve been looking extensively at API monitoring and tools for the past 2 years and I’ve noticed that many tools are basically, something else first 😅 and then they also have some API-centric metric or (usually) a way to test your APIs through checkpoints from all over the world. Not many differentiators there I must admit. I’ve decided I shall call these ones observability “General Monitoring Tools”. For some of you this is maybe the way to go, depending on your need. However, as I am writing this piece of content my colleague just sent me the news of how 😲😬. Data from 37 million accounts stolen! API increased by a staggering 681% last year alone. T-Mobile got hacked through API data breach attacks I am not trying to bash any of these tools, however, threats to your APIs are real and maybe (just maybe) metrics like uptime and you running your own test isn’t good enough anymore. To actually know that something like this is happening you’ll need a more API-centric tool that can tell you what is actually happening so that you can react faster and on time. So, the first part of my list will have some of the tools that can help you with that since some of them can provide you with real-time API metrics generated by your users. Here are my picks (there are more, so don’t hesitate to ask me for more if need be). 9 API-centric and API Observability Tools/Platforms Some of these are a bit older, but you know what they say: an oldie but a goodie. However, recently some tools emerged answering the call for more observability and transparency. In these “hAPI Hacker” times, it is a good time to consider using one of those. The first 3 tools on this list are more focused on answering this requirement, the rest is still API-centric, but offer more of the traditional things engineers are used to following, like uptime, speed and such. 1. Treblle Treblle is an all-in-one platform for the entire API lifecycle. A very intuitive UI gives value to almost everyone who needs to work with APIs. Advanced API metrics, enriched data at a glance and even a helpful hand to grade your REST API. Auto-detection of endpoints, and real-time API traffic with enriched data points that give you useful metadata about who, how and from where is your API being accessed, auto-generated docs and more. It’s a premium-looking product with accessible pricing for everyone and it’s basically brand new (founded in July 2021). Integration is simple and if you are versed in the language of your choice it shouldn’t take you more than 4-5 minutes to have this puppy up and running with virtually no impact on your API. It has great apps! Treblle is also the only one on this list with super-optimized native apps for iOS, Android and Windows, so you can monitor your APIs and get notified about potential problems on the go. : Treblle has a free forever (no credit card required) account that gives 250K requests that renew every month and they even award you with extra requests if you integrate within 24 hours of signing up. Pricing If you need more, there are also team and enterprise options. A great bonus with apps is that you can run local tests without them being counted as a request from your plan. So, test away as much as you love! 2. Akita Software This is an interesting tool in beta. Similarly to Treblle, it detects your endpoints and proceeds to paint a picture about your API performance from there. You can have your eye on everything that is happening in the dashboard, however, it doesn’t provide you with as many data points and analytics as Treblle does. However, it is in beta, so if you just want to dip your toes in the water of this kind of observability, then this might be a way. If you are serious about API your endpoints, then this is a tool that should enter your consideration. observability and monitoring 3. Moesif Moesif is another API analytics platform that can help you analyze how your API is being used. Features that can help you do this are funnel analysis, web analytics, behavioral emails and behavioral cohorts. Similar to RapidAPI, Moesif also offers a solution for monetizing your APIs. So, analytics come in handy if you are looking to grow and cash in. : Moesif offers a 14-day free trial. As with Treblle, there is no credit card required. You get 30K events for maximum of 1 user on the free options. Pricing 4. API Science API Science is another modern API monitoring tool that understands REST, JSON, OAuth and XML. It works by setting up monitors where you set up your tests. It’s a good tool for trying out different scenarios where the tool lets you test up to every 1 minute from around the world. The user experience is great and the interface is intuitive and easy to understand. What is also great is that API Science is a great tool if you rely on 3rd party APIs. You can easily keep track of any API in your “API supply chain” by setting up custom monitors. : Pricing starts from $20 for a Starter package where you get 30K API calls to work with. The largest plan offers 750K API call for $500. Pricing 5. Assertible Assertible seems to be very straightforward in what it offers. It’s (again) all about testing and making sure your API is delivering. The tool provides you with simple but powerful assertions to test and monitor your websites and APIs. : Similar to Treblle, Assertible also offers a free forever plan. It seems to be going for smaller teams and is currently not aiming at enterprises. Pricing 6. Postman Postman is probably the most recognizable name on this list with over 20M developers actually using the product in one way or the other. The most popular way of using Postman is for API testing, which you can do with their desktop app. The app itself is fine. However, it could be a little bit more optimized for my taste. Other than the most popular way to use Postman the platform itself comes with a set of tools that can cover your API design and API governance needs. There is a free option that comes with core tooling and can be used by up to 3 users, all the way up to enterprise level where the pricing becomes $99 per user. Pricing: 7. RapidAPI RapidAPI is probably the best place to learn a lot about how to use, build and ship APIs at the moment. They own the world’s largest API Hub where you can find, connect and manage APIs. RapidAPI offers a variety of products depending on your needs, however in my opinion they are more suited for larger teams if you are looking for a tool to help you manage your APIs. : RapidAPI does have a free trial. It is not super straightforward on the rest of the pricing model. However, this is the platform where you can actually monetize your API product and I suspect this is where RapidAPI also gets some of its revenue from. Pricing 8. Checkly Checkly is definitely more on the modern side of things when it comes to API monitoring. It still requires some setup to show its full potential, however, it might be worth the time. With Checkly you can automatically collect error traces, screenshots and performance metrics with every browser check you run. : There is a free forever option that gives you a 14-day free trial of team option. Pricing 9. Runescope Runescope is another tool that emphasizes testing and uptime. However, they are.. a bit more API-centric than some of the other tools on this list. Similar to some features on Treblle it can tell you information about the response size, speed and if the return payload was correct. Runescope offers free trial for its plans that start from $79 for 250K requests. Pricing: 11 General Monitoring Tools you can use for more traditional API monitoring These are mostly tools that are not new, with most of them being used by enterprises with big that prefer all of their monitoring requirements in one place. That is of course convenient. DevOps and engineering teams It becomes inconvenient when the same tool simply can’t or doesn’t have the power to show you advanced API statistics that are becoming more and more important. Especially if we are talking . security Nevertheless, these are still note-worthy and quite big and famous tools and platforms. 10. Saucelabs If all you do is test everything, every day, as much as you can, then this might be the sauce you need with your meal. Saucelabs covers much of what you might need like mobile app testing, cross-browser testing,  UI/Visual Testing and of course API testing. There are also options depending on your needs, so you can do continuous testing, automated or live. : For startups and medium teams the pricing starts from $39 up to almost $5K (depending on how many parallel tests you need.) Pricing 11. Sematext Synthetics Sematext offers synthetic monitoring for your APIs and Websites. The key word here is uptime, which is sometimes really the only information you are looking for. So if you need to know info about the availability of your website, APIs and critical web transactions, then this might be a solution to consider. Similarly to API Science, it requires you to set up designated checkpoints that will run the tests you want learnings from. : Pricing page looks a bit complicated, but it seems there is a free option for monitoring, although it is mainly for infrastructure monitoring, not just APIs. Pricing 12. Dotcom-Monitor Dotcom-Monitor is an overall great platform with a little bit of something for everybody. If you are mainly looking to see what is happening with your API, then you’ll look at Dotcom’s Load/Stress Testing solution. This is a real browser-based load testing for websites, web apps, APIs and streaming media. : Dotcom offers a free trial period of 30 days. It’s not super straight forward on what the pricing actually is after that. Pricing 13. DataDog Alongside Postman, probably the most recognizable brand on this list. Both have been around for a while. As a platform, it offers a lot and in enterprise-level DevOps teams is where it probably brings the most value. Can it show deep and enriched data about API requests automatically like say Treblle or can you learn all about APIs like with RapidAPI? Probably not! However, the main strong argument for DataDog is the centralization of everything that needs to be monitored, including APIs. It just depends on how much data is enough for your team to be efficient. : I am not even going to try to get into this. There are however free trials for whatever you might want to try out. Pricing 14. Better Uptime This is mainly an monitoring tool. It does check your API among other things (hence the name). It has an interesting approach to how it logs errors on an API. It records the response message and basically screenshots the webpage. This could be helpful to someone, however, there are tools that can tell you more actionable details. infrastructure : There is a free forever option that gives you 10 monitors and 5 status pages and it also has enterprise solutions ready. Pricing 15. Prometheus Prometheus is an open-sourced monitoring solution, usually used alongside Grafana (a little bit further down the list). It’s a very specific tool with a lot of integration options, so depending on your needs it might be worth your time to take a look. Integration time might be an issue if you need some information fast. Integrating this kind of solution usually takes up time, and on top of that, there will most probably be a on how to actually use it. learning curve 16. Graphite This is a very interesting solution that on top of getting valuable information for you, also allows you to get it in graph visuals for your website. I wouldn’t say this is the way to go if you are serious about API monitoring, but if you just need some simple and fast data that you can show, then Graphite might be a fun tool to use. 17. Uptrends Uptrends is another tool that gives you a solution for uptime, , web performance and API monitoring. When it comes to API monitoring, with Uptrends you can build out multi-step monitoring and run tests from 231 global checkpoints. web app : There is a 30-day free trial with no limitations, after which you can choose the plan that suites you the most, starting from $17.5/month Pricing 18. App Dynamics This Cisco product is advertised as full-stack observability for apps. Although it does bring some interesting solutions, and it does visualize infrastructure performance, I’d say in terms of monitoring APIs, it is similar to most tools. However, if you are a part of an app development team, this tool might be an interesting one to consider. The website gives you the option to get a quote, so I don’t have a disclosed price range, unfortunately. Pricing: 19. ReadMe ReadMe is primarily a tool that helps you with your API docs by essentially turning the into interactive developer hubs. However, among other features, they also have API metrics that can help your developers understand what is happening with the API. : On a free plan you get 1M API logs, which sounds great, however it is restricted to one project. If you want more, you’ll need to refer to one of the paid plans, starting from $99. Pricing 20. Grafana Grafana is too big not to be mentioned. Although Grafana offers a lot of possibilities and integrations, to me it also looks like a trap. It takes forever to integrate and requires continuous setup and learning, figuring out how to get what you want and so on. Big companies stick to the software even if it doesn’t cover all of their needs because of all of the work that went into setting it up in the first place. : This will depend on how and what you’ll use so it stands to reason that there isn’t any straight forward pricing for Grafana. Pricing 21. Open Telemetry OT is essentially a of APIs, SDKs and tools that you can use to get data you are interested in (like API metrics). It is free and , so if you are up to the task of finding what works best for you and you have a way to visualize the data, then maybe Open Telemetry is a way to go. collection open source Wrap Up So there you have it folks. Like I said at the start, there are more tools out there, and if you think it’s worth your time and resources you can always try to build something instead of taking something off the shelf. However, most of the things on the list have a free trial, and some come with free forever plans, so I would recommend trying some of those before you decide to commit to building. If you are already using something, 2023 might be a good year to make a switch to tools that will ensure your security and provide you with advanced observability which can position you ahead of your competitors.
