Based on a question I recently received on my blog, I decided to write this post. Let me briefly explain some background and context for this idea. I recently created a site which holds many of Donald Trump’s speeches on the back end. On the front end, a user can search of any words to see if that word is contained in any of the speeches. If there’s a match, it gives you statistics on how, when and where Trump most often talks about whatever the user searches for. In a previous post, I was working on a small site, where you could search Donald Trump’s recent speeches and get statistics on how often he uses certain words or phrases, when he uses them, and where he most frequently says certain things. For reference, he’s the working prototype of the site I’m building:

The ability to parse and search through JSON data can be incredibly powerful, regardless of what industry you’re in. In the following example, I’ll go over the following concepts, related to JSON data:

<span>T</span>here’s been a lot of debate on the limits of free speech in recent years. The current PC culture, that has grown from a plea for a more polite society to a war on offensive Halloween costumes, seems to make people forget why liberal democracies have free speech in the first place. Why it matters, why it is the most important value a society can hold. Why Evelyn Beatrice Hall (often misquoted as Voltaire) said: “I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it”. Free speech is important because of the fact that humans only have two ways to settle disputes. One is through violence and the other is through conversation. Cripple one and get more of the other. Free speech is not merely one’s right to say what’s on one’s mind, but also one’s right to hear ideas that would otherwise have been suppressed.
