<span>T</span>he humble pie chart is no miracle worker, but surely it doesn’t deserve the constant barrage of hate mail and hatchet-job pieces it’s been subjected to. Take this one that has been making the rounds:

Pie charts did nothing to deserve how you’re treating them

When I worked at Trilogy, one of my fellow managers seemed to have a brutal case of absenteeism. He was never at his desk. Even more concerning, when I did see him he seemed to be doing random things — talking to one person, going for coffee with another, or maybe just standing around and looking at&nbsp;people.

Your team doesn’t work for you. You work for them.

“A good solid staff, Harry,” answered James Starr. “I could not wish for a better than a fine fellow like you.”

THE DOCHART PIT

“Nell, do you hear what our mother says?” resumed Harry. “Wherever you go I will follow you. If you persist in leaving us, we will go away together.”

THE “MONK”

The fearful strain of anxiety removed, a reaction took place, and Harry fell fainting into the arms of his friends.

“Courage, comrades!” he exclaimed; “it is getting tired! We shall soon catch it up now, and if it can talk as well as it can run we shall hear a fine story.”

THE FIRE-MAIDENS

The old overman stepped forward, and himself felt the schistous rock. A cry escaped him.

“No, Simon, no indeed! You wear better than I do, my old friend!”

NEW ABERFOYLE

“Mr. Starr,” said Simon Ford, “I did not wish to tell any man but yourself.”

SIMON FORD’S EXPERIMENT

As Harry would not admit a supernatural explanation for a physical occurrence, he concluded that certainly some strange being prowled about in the pit.
