Till now, developing countries have not been able to overcome their internal problems with volatility and high levels of environmental uncertainty. Some of them are still characterized by low trust in traditional banking systems and currencies. But people still need proven financial tools to manage their funds, creating a blank space that could be filled with fintechs. Why fintech? Fintech companies are more agile, and in most cases, they work based on digital assets like cryptocurrencies. This is especially important in regions where inflation depreciates national currencies and pushes mass crypto adoption.  In this article, let’s delve deeper into the problems of emerging markets (EM) and see how fintech can help their financial systems. The main challenges of emerging markets As I mentioned in the introduction, developing countries can usually be described as regions with high uncertainty levels. Such a description refers both to problems in the political system and the national economy. Due to underdevelopment, there can be a high level of corruption, unfair elections, etc. These problems decrease people’s trust in all regulatory bodies, including the financial system. Such major issues may entail major problems in the economy, for example, currency depreciation, high inflation, the slowdown in production, etc. A bright illustration of the emerging state with a ton of economic problems is Argentina, the second country with the highest inflation rate ranking. The inflation is peaking up to 250% in this region. Emerging markets also cannot boast of an educated population. They suffer from a lack of financial literacy and an inability to allocate incomes properly. The majority of them do not understand sophisticated financial tools or digital assets. Nevertheless, sometimes it is explained by low incomes: emerging markets sometimes match the lower middle income strata. However, this is a problem from two sides. Sometimes, people do not know much about the financial system because it is simply underdeveloped. As proof of my words, there is the World Bank report where researchers highlight the same: nearly 30% of adults do not have financial accounts either because the maintenance costs are high or the institutions are too far away. How can fintech companies improve the situation? First, fintech companies usually provide their services online without the need to contact any financial institutions. Fintech can also afford to provide a service that is usually free of charge. This is thanks to low costs of keeping an online business. So, all in all, their products can be considered more affordable and accessible. To overcome political challenges, fintech also thoroughly considers the regulatory environment. Each market has its own set of rules and nuances that fintech companies have to adapt to or help to transform for better. Many fintech companies are working with crypto. Cryptocurrencies can be a real saver for people living in developed countries as they are a more stable payment method. With, for example, stablecoins, developed countries' citizens should not worry about high inflation decreasing their assets. Additionally, crypto payments are an excellent method to be engaged in global commerce as crypto deletes borders and facilitates international payments. Actually, this also inspires marketplaces to operate in emerging markets, which creates a positive effect for the whole region’s development. Fintech companies also care about raising financial literacy. Sometimes before offering a product, they educate the potential user on its pros and cons and the ways on how to use it. This is a win-win strategy, as companies increase their clientele and population increase their knowledge of finance. As financing is a problem, fintechs can also have a hand in regions’ wealth increase. They grant loans on more affordable terms and have fewer requirements during credit scoring, compared to banks. Not only theory but also reality In fact, there are indeed many companies in the world today that operate quite successfully in emerging markets. One such example is 8B World. The discussion of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become so prevalent that every sector is now informed of its existence. Over the years, technology has been a major driving force in growing and developing human work states and engagements. With various examples of newly developed AI, the adoption of this digital revolution has become so paramount to everyone. However, an important question I have amid all these is, “how will AI help developing Third World countries?” It is important to first examine what third-world countries are before delving into the ways in which AI can help them better. In light of this, let us consider what third-world countries are; hence, what are third-world countries? The term third-world countries can be traced to the era of the Cold War between the East and West Bloc between 1947 and 1991. This term was originally used to refer to countries that were not aligned with either the Capitalist World or the Communist World. However, defining third-world countries can be challenging, as the term has evolved over time and can have different meanings depending on the context. According to Amartya Sen, a Nobel Prize-winning economist, "The Third World refers to countries that have relatively low levels of living standards, which makes them poor and backward, and that have been unable to close the gap with the industrialized world." According to the , third-world countries are countries that are characterized by;’ Corporate Finance Institue High rates of poverty Economic and/or political instability High mortality rates Hence, by considering these three pointers, third-world countries can, however, be regarded as either underdeveloped or developing countries, which then further resonates with the question of how an advanced technological revolution can also function in a developing country. In an article by the in 2020, the authors noted; new technology risks widening the gap between rich and poor countries by shifting more investment to advanced economies where automation is already established. This could, in turn, have negative consequences for jobs in developing countries by threatening to replace rather than complement their growing labor force, which has traditionally provided an advantage to less developed economies. To prevent this growing divergence, policymakers in developing economies will need to take actions to raise productivity and improve skills among workers.’ International Monetary Fund However, despite this economic argument of development regarding third-world countries, according to IMF, there are still some ways in which AI can help develop third-world countries, and these sectors will be properly considered in the subsequent paragraphs. How AI Will Contribute to the Growth of Developing Countries The impact of Artificial Intelligence can be felt in various sectors in Third World countries, and some of these are: Healthcare Sector One area where AI can have a significant impact on Third World countries is in healthcare. AI-powered diagnostic tools and predictive models can help doctors and healthcare workers diagnose and treat diseases more accurately and efficiently. For example, AI algorithms can be used to identify early warning signs of diseases like cancer and diabetes, allowing for earlier interventions and potentially better health outcomes. In addition, AI-powered telemedicine platforms can help connect patients in remote or underserved areas with healthcare professionals, improving access to healthcare for those who need it most. Education Sector Another area where AI can help develop Third World countries is education. Education is a very big stage for AI impact in the Third World countries, especially with the rise in education percentage. Hence, options like AI-powered tutoring and learning platforms can provide personalized learning experiences for students, helping to bridge the education gap in areas with limited resources or poorly functioning educational systems. Additionally, AI can help identify students who are at risk of falling behind or dropping out, allowing teachers and administrators to intervene and provide additional support as needed. For instance, in South Africa, , an AI study buddy, is helping students learn faster. Foondamate Agricultural Sector In agriculture, AI can help farmers increase crop yields and improve food security. AI-powered predictive models can provide insights into weather patterns, soil quality, and pest infestations, allowing farmers to make more informed decisions about when to plant and harvest crops. However, realizing the full potential of AI in these contexts will require a concerted effort from governments, private sector actors, and civil society to ensure that the benefits of AI are shared widely and equitably. Unlike Web 2.0, where a few big companies control the centralised server, Web 3.0 is predicted to be decentralised and based on blockchain technology. Identity With Web 3.0, you do not have to provide as much personal information as you do with Web 2.0. In this article, we will take a brief look at some key breakout moments in Africa’s tech ecosystem and Meta’s impact in those moments, and explain its dominance in the continent. THE GENESIS The African tech ecosystem has experienced slow but incremental growth over the years. In 2007, Kenyan telecom, Safaricom, launched , a product I called the “Mother of Fintech in Africa”. The product helped launch people with access to mobile phones right over brick-and-mortar banking into the digital economy, the first of its kind on the continent. Pesa Mobile Money wasn't just a groundbreaking success; it also helped carve the booming fintech industry in Africa today, inspiring young generations of entrepreneurs. The African market is fully untapped, many are aware, but few are taking action. As businesses continue to spring up in Africa, Meta will continue to reap the “fruits of its labor”, because reaching potential customers through digital marketing, entails leveraging  platforms where they can be found. Many tech companies choose to “neglect” the African market, restricting their services from the region, either because of infrastructure barriers or bad government, but Meta has chosen to innovate, connecting the world together irrespective of barriers. We do not hear much about Web3 from Africa. When we do it usually concerns west Africa, specifically Nigeria with their new startup unicorns such as flutter wave. If not west Africa then East Africa, specifically Kenya, and their mobile banking takeover and recent cryptocurrency-buying trend. If not Nigeria or Kenya, then surely South Africa as it has more web3-based startups, although none reached unicorn status yet. When we think of the applications of Web3 in Africa such as cryptocurrencies, decentralized finance ( ), Non-Fungible Tokens ( ), or blockchain technology, either one or all, we don’t think of central Africa. Why not? DeFi NFTs The countries which are in the central Africa area such as the Democratic Republic of Congo, Chad, Cameroon, Gabon, etc are almost all unstable. Mostly due to internal and external warfare with different militia groups. Central African Republic ( ) is no exception to this rule. It has been in a civil war that has splintered the nation into bits and pieces. CAR The formal democratically elected government has only recently, as last year, get a hold of most of their country once again. You might see the devastation that has been left in the Central African Republic and ask let’s explore this. “How bad is the devastation? How does it correlate with web3?” Central African Republic is ranked countries on the human development index ( ). What does that mean? It means they are completely behind the rest of the world on all metrics of progress. They have a small population of people and natural minerals worth more than . Yet have an annual GDP of . “How bad is the devastation?” 188 out of 189 HDI 5 million 3 trillion dollars 2 billion USD They do not have enough money to jump-start their economy after its devastation. Not enough money to start mining their own resources to make more money either. To get this money a country would take monetary aid but that creates a culture of co-dependence and obedience. How about loans? the amount of money they’d need to borrow would make the loan improbable to pay back for a very long time. Stick to small-scale farming of needed produce? that would boost their economy but not enough to pull them up as quickly as they need it. Then what are they planning to do? They took a risk and are now making a groundbreaking leap in the ways of Web3! What is the Sango Project? ** ** The Sango project is definitely an interesting Web3 prospect. They even legalized bitcoin as legal tender just before the announcement of the project because of its Web3 nature. But what exactly is it and how will it help the people of the CAR? In the words of , the president of CAR himself Faustin-Archange Touadéra “A common cryptocurrency and an integrated capital market that could stimulate commerce and sustain growth”. Even if he said this, what does the project offer that warrants investment or interest? (or Sango). This makes it a cryptocurrency-backed stable coin. This also means that the Sango project’s Web3 blockchain activity will be run on a side-chain of the main bitcoin blockchain network and utilize the Proof-of-Work ( )consensus protocol. This ensures the strength of bitcoin by providing scarcity and showing the practicality of cryptocurrency usage, especially in governmental institutions. This creates equal voting opportunities for all citizens and could be considered the epitome of a democratic-libertarian voting system as it is done on a secure blockchain which ensures safety and fairness. Future voting for particular topics or subjects will be voted on by the citizens of CAR through a Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) .
