As a backend developer, I often find myself collaborating closely with my frontend team to ensure the seamless deployment of web applications. Recently, our frontend team brought forth a pressing challenge that was slowing down our development workflow. Problem Statement 🤔 They were responsible for managing a Flutter web application running on a Google Cloud Platform (GCP) virtual machine (VM). While the app itself was impressive, the deployment process left much to be desired. The existing deployment workflow was a multi-step ordeal: Build the Flutter web app. Upload the app to the VM. Unzip the uploaded package. Extract the contents into the appropriate Apache directory. And sometimes, things went awry, causing deployment to drag on for far too long. Initial Attempt with Docker Image Deployment 🐳 Our initial approach was to implement Docker image deployment on the VM using GitHub Actions. While this seemed promising, it quickly became apparent that it came with its own set of complexities and challenges. 🤯 The process of creating Docker images occasionally led to failures, leaving us scratching our heads. 🔒 SSH connections to the VM sometimes failed unexpectedly, causing frustrating delays in the deployment process. ⌛ Timeouts became a common occurrence, further exacerbating the deployment woes. It was clear that our initial attempt was far from the seamless deployment solution we were aiming for. Cloud Run The Saviour ☁️ In our quest to find a more efficient deployment solution and streamline collaboration, we stumbled upon Cloud Run—a game-changer in our deployment journey. Web 1.0 Beta The concept of hypertext predates the World Wide Web by several decades. However, almost all hypertext systems relied on local files. The companies eventually started selling our information to advertisers, which meant more money for them! Facebook's data-sharing deals exposed To summarize web 2.0 we can say that users are the product. Web 3.0 The web 3.0 concept aims to create a decentralized, but secure, internet in which people can securely exchange money and information, without the need for middlemen or big tech companies. Unlike Web 2.0 where data is stored in a single database or on a cloud provider, Web 3 applications either runs on blockchain, peer to peer nodes (servers). In contrast to web 2.0, where you are the product, some people predict that in web 3.0, you will be the content owner. According to web 3.0 specialists, the corporation will be run by a decentralised group known as a removing the need of CEO’s and upper management in a company. Because your digital identity is not tied to your real identity in web 3.0, you can be anonymous on the internet while still living your usual life. DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization) An example of web 3.0 application is Obsidian for Whatsapp, Odyessy, LBRY  for YouTube, etc. Is the buzz surrounding Web 3.0 worth it? Varied people have different perspectives on this; some believe it is a hoax created by cryptocurrency traders, while others believe it is a real deal. In my opinion, blockchain and web 3.0 are still in an early stage of development and have a long way to go. This can be highly dangerous unless there is a means to check if the information contains explicit content by machine. I would love to hear your opinion on this issue. Personal Opinion: I've been learning about blockchain for about two weeks now, and while I don't believe it is yet at the level where it can transform the entire web, I do find the idea and the conecpt of blockchian and decentralized web intriguing.
