In courageous defiance against his company’s oppressive coding standards, local software engineer Jack Johnson decided to hardcode all strings in English in his team’s product. “Look, it just takes too much effort to add support for 50 languages,” said Johnson, apparently unaware that integrating i18n support into the product would’ve taken just a few hours due to the robust internationalization libraries available to him. Taking his customary 3-hour foosball break, he added, “I mean, I’m here to code, not to translate stuff! Who even has time to do that?” At press time, Johnson was heard complaining that the app he had hoped to use to plan his vacation abroad was only available in Chinese.
