Too Long; Didn't Read
The first recorded use of the term artificial intelligence was made by John McCarthy, an American computer scientist and one of the discipline's founders. The so-called AI winter began in the 1970s, and AI eventually reached its limits as substantial funding was put on hold. The ice was finally broken by ImageNET, a database project that stored 15 million images led by Stanford's Fei Fei Li in 2009. There are currently only 22,000 people in the world with the expertise needed to create machine learning systems.
