Very insightful, and I completely agree. It's a great reminder of the dichotomy that even though the source data itself is meant to be neutral, processed data is rarely truly objective. They almost always have an inherent bias, and are subject to assumptions made by the data processor. One possible way I can think of countering this specific example is making the relationship function more nuanced (instead of solely relying on a ‘nearness’ metric)
