Twitch has gained popularity due to its live streaming feature and rise in interest in eSports. Any user can stream his gameplay, gain the interest of the viewers or watch someone else's gameplay himself. Millions of professional gamers stream their live game action which in turn is spectated by millions of users. One of the factors to its success is that it restricts its broadcast services to only video games.

The question is 'Why would anyone be interested in seeing anybody else play when you can play games yourselves?' But then people also watch cricket or football when they can play it themselves. \n 

The streamers on Twitch are usually sound gamers which helps in improving one's sense of gameplay. Watch them play and you can teach yourselves a thing or two.

Twitch is bound to generate greater traffic than Facebook or Amazon for the same reason as to why Netflix generates about 1/3rd of the traffic. Purely videos and not text/images are generated by them as content.
