Too Long; Didn't Read

For the last couple of weeks I have gathered data from sources such as Ethercasts and scraped social media platforms. I compiled this data on to a central platform allowing anyone to explore and crowdsource information.

an overview of projects that are currently being developed on the Ethereum network.

For the last couple of weeks I have gathered data from sources such as Ethercasts and scraped social media platforms. I compiled this data on to a central platform allowing anyone to explore and crowdsource information.

What I ended up with is a database of 407 Ethereum projects in 21 categories. This database will be updated continuously and I will report the trends on a monthly basis.

Categories

Looking at the categories for the known Ethereum projects we can see that game is currently the biggest category with 17% of the known total. This percentage combined with trading, gambling and development-tools makes up 53% of the total known public projects.

A small sidenote; the category game goes hand-in-hand with gambling and thus is difficult to classify separately. Some sources categorize gambling projects as games while others list them as gambling. One could argue that most ICO’s in the casino category are considered both gaming and gambling therefore it would make sense to look at them together as one group that makes up 29%.

Status

Above are the current project statuses. 32% of the projects are currently live. Keep in mind that these are the statistics of the projects that we know about, there might be a lot more projects being developed behind closed doors.

About 10% of the projects are either on-hold, abandoned or unknown. Projects for which no contact information is available to gather the necessary data are simply classified as unknown.

Etherstatus.com

By putting this information in a database and presenting it on a website in a clear interface we can achieve a better understanding of the current Ethereum state and its projects.

All of this information is publicly available on my website https://www.etherstatus.com and will soon be available as a public API. I am currently updating the website to crowdsource data by allowing users to update projects in exchange for Ether.
