The Westall UFO incident occurred on April 6, 1966, in the Melbourne suburb of Westall, Victoria, Australia. The incident involved multiple reports of a flying object, described as a gray, saucer-shaped craft, which was seen by over 200 students and staff at Westall High School and Westall State School, as well as several residents in the surrounding area.

The incident began at around 11:00 am when a group of students at Westall High School noticed a strange object in the sky. The object was described as being gray in color, with a saucer-like shape and a dome on top. The students reported that the object appeared to be hovering at a low altitude and that it made a low humming noise.

The news of the sighting quickly spread throughout the school, and soon a large group of students and staff gathered to observe the object. Some of the witnesses reported that the object appeared to change shape, becoming elongated and then returning to its original saucer shape. The object also reportedly hovered in one place for several minutes before suddenly accelerating and disappearing into the clouds at high speed.

After the incident, several of the witnesses reported that they had been interviewed by men in suits who they believed to be government officials. These men reportedly asked the witnesses not to speak about the incident to anyone, and several of the witnesses have since said that they were threatened with punishment if they did so.

The incident generated widespread media coverage and public interest at the time, and it is still considered one of the most well-known UFO sightings in Australian history.

In the years since the incident, many theories have been put forward to explain what the object might have been, including suggestions that it was a military aircraft, a weather balloon, or a hoax.

However, despite the many theories that have been put forward, the true identity of the object remains a mystery. Some of the witnesses have reported that they believe the object was a UFO or more commonly referred to as a UAP nowadays, while others have suggested that it might have been some kind of secret military aircraft.

One theory is that it was an experimental aircraft belonging to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) or the United States Air Force (USAF). It has been suggested that the object was a top-secret aircraft that was being tested in the area at the time and that the official investigation was a cover-up to prevent the existence of the aircraft from being revealed to the public.

Another theory is that the object was a weather balloon. Weather balloons are known to be used for meteorological research, and it is possible that one was being launched in the area at the time of the incident. However, the witnesses' descriptions of the object's movements and the fact that it was seen by so many people suggest that it was not a weather balloon.

A third theory is that the object was a hoax. Hoaxes are known to occur in UFO/UAP sightings, and it is possible that the Westall incident was a hoax perpetrated by someone with an interest in UFOs or the paranormal. However, the large number of witnesses and the fact that the object was seen by so many people makes this theory unlikely.

Despite the many theories that have been put forward, the true identity of the object remains a mystery. It is possible that the Westall incident was the result of a top-secret military aircraft, a weather balloon, or a hoax. However, repeating again, the fact that the incident was witnessed by so many people and that the object was seen to move in ways that cannot be easily explained suggests that it was something more unusual.

An interesting and possibly related fact relating to the Westall UFO is that the small suburb of Westall is flanked by Moorabbin Airport a general aviation airport for light aircraft which is approximately 5 kilometers to the South.

In conclusion, the Westall UFO incident remains one of the most intriguing and unexplained events in Australian history.
