An API is like a waiter who takes an order at a restaurant and brings the food back to the customer. An API needs to ensure that data is transmitted securely and not intercepted or modified by unauthorized parties. There are several architectural styles for APIs, but 3 of the most popular are REST, SOAP, and GraphQL.
