Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, acknowledged the company's plans to implement end-to-end encryption for direct communications on the network.
In this Slogging thread, our community discussed the cool features of Twitter 2.0 and its possible impacts on its users.

These features are part of Musk's vision for Twitter 2.0, which is expected to be what's called an "everything app."
Mid-November 2022 saw the first indication of the company's plans for encrypted messages when mobile researcher Jane Manchun Wong discovered source code modifications in Twitter's Android app referencing conversation keys for E2EE chats.
Actually, It's worth noting that various other messaging platforms, such as Signal, Threema, WhatsApp, iMessage, Wire, Tox, and Keybase, already support encryption for messages.😎
Musk further touted that new user signups to the social media platform are at an "all-time high," averaging over two million per day in the last seven days as of November 16, up 66% compared to the same week in 2021. Twitter has over 253.8 million monetizable daily active users (mDAU).
The new subscription tier is tentatively set to be rolled out as early as December 2, 2022, with a multi-colored verification system that aims to give out gold badges for companies, gray for governments, and blue for individual accounts.
With this, Elon gets closer to his Everything App.
What do you think?
Musk further touted that new user signups to the social media platform are at an "all-time high" - I need to see the data to believe it 😂 I don't believe Musk.
I mean, sure it's a smart move. However, if he's already allowing hate speech. I wonder how that is going to translate to twitter messaging. It'll be an interesting social case to study, for sure. But it'll be better for users in general. However, I don't see it replace messaging platforms already well established. I'd love to hear your perspectives on this too, but for myself, I only use Twitter messaging in case I have a tweet to share and even that is rare
Mónica Freitas Exactly! Well I totally agree with you in terms of using the twitter messaging.
Elon claims that the main driving force behind these modifications is the plan to increase monthly active users on the social network to over 1 billion by 2024 while making ongoing platform improvements to enhance the user experience. This all started with a string of tweets Elon Musk sent out on Saturday, June 26. One of them mentioned that the platform had just hit a record high for both new and active users.
This slide series features charts on positive data on the platform recently, such as a spike in new users and a reduction in hate speech. In addition to showing the recent impacts of his management, Elon Musk reveals information about news that will arrive on the social network in its new version, called Twitter 2.0.
Charts on recent positive platform data, including a rise in new users and a drop in hate speech, are shown in this presentation set. Elon Musk also discusses the news that will be posted on the social network in its next edition, known as Twitter 2.0, in addition to highlighting recent effects of his administration.
I'm curious about what triggered this growth. The option to buy a verified tag? Musk being the boss now?
Mónica Freitas I think it should be the verified tag. In some sense, Elon taking over as the CEO also created a lot of audience as well.
Seems pretty weird to me.
On one hand, it's a smart move. For what I know, he has the idea for the Everything App for a while and he's actually making it work. This way, he already has base of users where he can implement his ideas.
On the other hand, feels pretty weird the whole idea of a Twitter 2.0. He's making quite a few changes, and even though I'm not a user, I feel like it's no longer Twitter.
Sara Pinto You make a lot of sense actually. It might not be twitter anymore. Would you like to try twitter for atleast a month?. I think we would love to know about your experience.
I'm sure Mónica Freitas would agree with that.😊
Hahaha, that sounds like a fun and terrorizing experience, all at the same time! I associate Twitter with drama, I think that's why I'm mostly not interested in hoping in. But hey, never say never haha, Valentine Enedah
Sara Pinto Alright!😎
Let's do it!
I'm also still rooting for Elon. I hope he succeeds with the Everything App.
