How’s the tech community remembering?

The 15th anniversary of the September 11 attacks is all over social media and the Internet, from Twitter Moments to our news feed on Facebook, to the Snapchat story on “Remembering 9/11.”

Here on Medium, the curation team put together a dedicated collection of stories.

Google decided to go Doodle-less and added a simple black ribbon to commemorate the nearly 3,000 men, women, and children who lost their lives 15 years ago, while search engine Bing posted a view of the New York skyline and Freedom Tower from the Staten Island September 11 Memorial.

But how is the tech community and Silicon Valley remembering?

On Facebook, Wikipedia mentioned the more than 5,000 editors around the world who have contributed to the 9/11 page, while Sheryl Sandberg wrote a touching post to honor the victims and the survivors of those horrible attacks.

On Twitter, venture capital and tech guru Marc Andreessen shared a Politico article on president George W. Bush’s journey aboard Air Force One in the hours after the attacks, as told by the people who were on board. Adam Sharp, head of news, government and elections at Twitter, retweeted some of his September 11 tweets from years past.

On Medium, Dennis Crowley, co-founder of Foursquare, re-posted a blog post he wrote in 2006, on the 5th anniversary of 9/11. In the article, which he re-posts every year since, he narrates his experience on that September 11, 2001.

I was asleep when the first plane hit the North Tower. The boom must have woken me up as I remember looking at my alarm clock and thinking “8:46, why am I awake?”

The fundraising website GoFundMe opened a dedicated campaign to help three partner non profits and their 9/11 initiatives, including the 9/11 Memorial.
