HackerNoon has been in existence for a considerable amount of time—enough time for you to have become an official member 🙃 —but we'll overlook that for now.

We understand, you already have a plethora of accounts, and the thought of going through a nine-step process to gain access intimidates you — a trait common among Gen Z, perhaps? We cast no judgments.

However, it's essential to know that this is no longer necessary with us - we've found a more efficient way. Our new flow allows you to sign up in a single step and immediately returns you to where you were before deciding to join us. We're the low-maintenance type of partner; we only ask for a little love from time to time.

Let's get straight to the point: if you have ever referred to HackerNoon's FAQs, you'll know that when you wanted to sign up, you had to select an account type, be it a writer's account, reader's account, or brand's account. Each of these carries a set of benefits and commitment levels that could make anyone hesitant.

Although the process was not lengthy and was mainly customized according to your needs on the website by allowing you to choose interests and newsletters and personalize your profile page, we want to offer you an even simpler version, hence our new sign-up flow.

By now, it's clear that our sign-up process has become significantly simpler! Staying true to our policy, anyone around the web can read our stories without any conditions. However, if they wish to interact with HackerNoon stories - bookmark, comment, annotate, react, flag, among other actions - or write a new one - they need to have an account.

With this in mind, our developers have modified the way HackerNoon prompts you to create an account - let's examine how it works:

  1. You're engrossed in a story;
  2. You desire to make an annotation on that particular story, so you select that option;
  3. You get redirected to the sign-up page and asked to input an email and password;
  4. Upon reading, you click the terms and policies checkbox;
  5. Voila! You're assigned a handle and guided back to the action you intended to perform before encountering the sign-up page.

Please understand that this doesn't mean you can't pick your handle later or select the tags most related to your interests. These options are still available on your profile page settings and will always be throughout your time with HackerNoon.

If you want to know more about the actions and parent features that trigger it all, check out our product updates. They'll give you the full scope of how these features work and the perks they offer our users.

If upon reading this post, you still don't feel like this:

It's time to evaluate your priorities!
