The Sandbox is a virtual world game based on digital currency that allows users to create and play virtual games within a game. The native cryptocurrency for the Sandbox is known as SAND.

History

The Sandbox was created by Pixowl in 2012. It was created as a platform for mobile gaming. The Sandbox Evolution was released in 2016 and generated over 10 million mobile phone installs.

Pixowl was bought by Animoca Brands in August 2018 in order to create the blockchain version of the game. They created a play-to-earn blockchain version that allows users to make their own exclusive avatars in order to gain access to environments, games, and hubs on the crypto-driven metaverse. Animoca raised $2.5 million in funding to develop the project in May 2019.

The Blockchain version of the game was launched by Arthur Madrid and Sebastian Borget. It allows players to create their virtual worlds using Non Fungible Tokens (NFTs) on Ethereum and earn rewards as they participate in the ecosystem.

Madrid and Borget released a blockchain version of The Sandbox in 2021 that became one of the fastest cryptocurrency games to grow. The software provided allows users to create and build 3D items of varying types from vehicles to buildings to fashion and more. Users can offer the items on the Sandbox blockchain as NFTs and sell them on either the Sandbox blockchain or on other secondary markets such as OpenSea. Items and games creators and players form on the Sandbox can be monetized by them.

Biggest Claim to Fame

The Sandbox gives users a means of getting money from their game plays. The major problem for gamers is locked funds - the funds that are in the game that can only be redeemed to more buildups within the game itself only. Sandbox offers a means to actually monetize the value put into the game for usable currency. A good example of this is in the creation of NFTs which can be created within the game and sold for currency either within the game or to third parties.

Sandbox gives users premium access to excellent gaming options like NFT art games like Hack the Tao. There are different games to satisfy every type of gamer’s gaming needs whether their preference is collect-a-thons, Fantasy RPGs or virtual 3D printing. Sandbox provides them and adds different games frequently.

The Sandbox metaverse provides a unique opportunity to players by charging people for the interactive experience they can offer on their land. Each piece of land on the Sandbox Metaverse is a 96-by 96-meter plot of land. The users can buy these plots and create whatever they wish to make on them then charge other users for the experience they are hosting.

Biggest Criticism of Sandbox

The Sandbox metaverse is an extension of the very popular mobile game. The success and growth of the metaverse are directly proportional to the success and growth of the mobile game. The Sandbox metaverse is essentially only growing thanks to the interest of the gaming community and the interest the game generates within the gaming world and the strength of the coin that powers the game, Ethereum. If the popularity and interest in the game wane, the value of the Sandbox metaverse will lower dramatically.

The Sandbox Team

Athur Madrid is co-founder and Chief Executive Officer at The Sandbox. He is the CEO of Pixowl and an advisor at Animoca Brands. He started his career building Video on Demand platforms for media companies and has developed social games for over 12 years.

Sebastian Borget is the co-founder and Chief Operations Officer at Sandbox. He is the president of the blockchain Game Alliance and an advocate for NFTs and blockchain use and integration within the gaming ecosystem.

In Conclusion

The Sandbox offers a unique opportunity for gamers to earn from playing games they love. It also expands the opportunities for NFT creation and uses in gaming and the possibilities of monetization within it.
