As someone in the IT recruiting industry, I believe that the most exciting technology of the present are vetted developer marketplaces because more and more tech companies hire remotely and directly.
Learn more about my thoughts and opinions on IT recruiting and my journey in the tech industry via the interview below.
1. What do you do and why do you do it? (tell us your story)
We built Reintech to remove barriers between Ukrainian software developers and the growing amount of Western companies experiencing a lack of local engineering talent.
I worked a lot in the outsourcing business and saw all the benefits and downsides of it. I wanted to create a company which would filter out the common mistakes and instead run solely on the good company practices.
2. Tell us more about the things you create / write / manage / build!
We've created a transparent environment where tech companies can access top talents from Ukraine and hire them without a middlemen.
Because of such a model, we are very attractive to developers, they join us to have access to the best tech teams worldwide.
3. How did you end up on your current career path? Do you like it?
I love it. We moved from a service business with an arbitrage model to a product where I can focus on what I truly like to do and what brings the most of the value to both sides — developers and tech companies.
The path to this point wasn't easy for me. This is because in 2019 I had to shut down my previous business to start a new one. Even though the old one was profitable.
4. What tech are you most excited or passionate about right now and why?
I am excited about how IT recruiting is changing. A global move to WFH opened a lot of opportunities for both tech companies and software developers worldwide.
The hiring process is changing, there are a lot of opportunities for building infrastructure platforms to make hiring and remote work more productive.
5. What tech are you most worried about right now and why?
I am not worried about a specific type of tech right now. However:
What looks worrying to me, is that there is a growing risk of cyber-attacks that can affect the infrastructure of even big companies.
So it becomes much more important to protect data and infrastructure now. It seems this trend could lead to splitting big services into smaller ones to provide better reliability.
6. If we gave you 10 million dollars to invest in something today, what would you invest in and why?
Besides recruiting platforms for remote work, I'd consider tech companies in the agriculture sector. The reason is that growing local food and not depending on a global delivery chain will probably be in high demand in coming years.
Another direction of my hypothetical investments would be media production. It could be media distribution platforms for content creators and even individual content creators.
7. What are you currently learning?
I am learning a lot in the area of performance marketing and user acquisition.
We are trying to grow Reitnech as a media company, so I learn how to create and distribute content, how to measure performance, and adapt to our audience's needs.
8. What’s the best advice you’ve ever given someone?
I think the best advice I gave was a simply a gift of a book on how to learn programming. No spoken words needed.
Another great bit of adivice I give from time to time (when I review written text) is I’ll tell them to: "delete it all and try to rewrite it more simply." ;)
9. What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
There was a lot of great advice I recieved. The most recent advice was to start a daily newsletter for developers. I struggled to start it, but now I feel so grateful for such a piece of advice.
